Anybody got any info on the new Athlon XP Thorton? My local supplier is stocking the 2000+ now but I can't find any info, particularly regarding power dissipation. The usual place (with the charts) doesn't list it.
Also I see the power output for the Duron 1.6 is very good. Anybody got any performance stats on it and anybody done any undervolting on this one?
Thanks

The Thorton XP2000 is typically 47W. For comparison a Thoroughbred XP2000 is 55W.
You can get the data sheet from
AMD here.

A Thorton is a Barton core except half of the L2 cache has been cut off, possible from a bad fabrication. There are mods online to attempt to reenable the additional cache but I have never personally dont it myself.

Not sure about the Durons, but the new Athlon XP has the Thorton core. Visually, on the CPU, it's elongated like the Barton core, and internally has half the L2 cache disabled.

As far as I know AMD is still selling them and has no plans to discontinue / change them any time soon.
Apparently the rationale behind the Thorton (crippled Barton) is so that AMD doesn't need to fabricate two different cores (T-Bred and Barton), saving them money and maybe freeing up fab space for the 64 bit chips.
