Samsung’s latest Odyssey OLED G9 is a high-end gaming monitor that features the latest and greatest technological innocations in the industry. It was announced at CES 2023 and since then has been discussed amongst monitor enthusiasts on forums across the web. Amongst the queries, the one question that stood out to us was, is the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 worhth it? Let’s take a closer look.
The new monitor was recently revealed by Samsung, sparking excitement amongst fans of the brand. One of the best features of this super ultrawide monitor is its massive 49-inch display – equipped with a resolution of 5120×1440 and a refresh rate of 240Hz. Alongside these exciting specs, the new G9 will also feature OLED technology in the panel – allowing it to produce perfect blacks and an infinite contrast ratio.
On top of this, the G9 will also boast a 1ms response time and will support NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, providing users with a smooth, tear-free visual experience when gaming. The Samsung OLED g9 will also have a built-in game enhancer that automatically optimizes the settings depending on what game you’re playing – including FPS, RTX, and RPG.
Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 features
One of the main features – and selling points – of this monitor is its giant 1800R curved display – which is absolutely ideal for any gamer that is looking for the highest levels of immersion. Alongside this, users will also be treated to the latest OED screen which will offer a wider color gamut for a more realistic and lifelike color experience.
Like most modern monitors, the Samsung OLED G9 will also come with its own set of drawbacks. One of the main issues will likely – but not confirmed – be its high price point. The latest Neo G9 launched for an eye-watering $2500 – and that wasn’t including any of the features found in the latest variant.
On top of this, the OLED G9 will also feature Variable refresh rate technology, a high-end screen resolution, 240Hz refres rate and low response time – the perfect blend of specifications for a truly immersive gaming experience.
Does the Samsung OLED G9 suffer from burn-in?
Like all OLEDs, the Samsung OLED G9 will suffer from burn in – a screen artifact that results in static images being retained on the screen after extended periods of time – leading to permanent damage to the display. As you’d imagine, Samsung has implemented various technologies to minimize this risk, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still a risk and a concern.
Is the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 worth it?
Ultimately, we’ll have to wait until there is an official price tag to decide whether or not the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 is worth it. One things for sure, regardless of how expensive the new 49-inch monitor is, it’ll still be one of the best gaming monitors in 2024 and will likely sell incredibly well.
If the OLED G9 variant isn’t good enough for you, however, why not check out the new Samsung 57-inch G9, equipped with all the latest technologies – including an 8K screen resolution.
