AMD brought a new mid-range GPU to the market that’s seemingly a direct competitor to Nvidia’s RTX 4060 and so far, it seems to be edging out the Nvidia GPU in both price and performance. If you’re looking to build a mid-range PC, then the RX 7700 XT should certainly be on the radar.

The new Radeon RX 7700 XT, powered by AMD’s new RDNA 3 architecture, has been marketed for 1440p gaming. This new 7000 series GPU offers yet another price point in the mid-tier sector, along with the RX 7800 XT,

So, let’s get down to it–is the Radeon RX 7700 XT good for 1440p gaming, or should you pay the extra for the 7800 XT?

Radeon RX 7700 XT Specs:

The new Radeon RX 7700 XT certainly spruces things up with its new RDNA architecture, but the specs are still respectable. While they don’t seem all that impressive on paper, the new redesigned architecture improves performance and efficiency across the board.

The 7700 XT features 54 2nd-generation RT accelerators, a unified 54 RDNA 3 compute units, and a whopping 108 AI accelerators. The GPU comes in with a respectable game clock of 2171 MHz that ramps all the way up to 2544 MHz.

Moving on to the memory specs, the 7700 XT comes in with a respectable 12 gigs of GDDR6 VRAM that’s based on a 192-bit memory bus with a memory speed of 18 Gbps. Paired with it is AMD’s 48 MBs of infinity V-Cache that promises improved latency and better bandwidth at a lower TDP.

Is the Radeon RX 7700 XT good for 1440p gaming?

Yes, the Radeon RX 7700 XT is good for 1440p gaming. From AMD’s claimed marketing campaign and performance metrics, the 7700 XT maintains 60+FPS on all AAA titles at a native 1440p resolution without the use of FSR 3.

There are going to be some compromises with this card over the RX 7800 XT, which is the recommended choice of the two for 1440p gaming. It will be interesting to see which of the new GPUs gets left behind but with the current pricing, it looks as though the 7700 XT may not offer enough.

In summary

All-in-all, the Radeon RX 7700 XT is set to spice up the mid-range space. It comes in with some decent performance at 1440p. Putting the price into perspective, the 7700 XT is an incredible value card priced at $449 MSRP, though AIB partners have yet to reveal if they follow suit with this pricing scale. It will fall short of the more powerful 7800 XT, so we await further testing data before confirming which you should choose but for the time being, the slightly more expensive 7800 XT looks the likely winner.
