Sony Handheld Project Q release window prediction

Table of Contents

The Sony Showcase announced a number of new games, but perhaps one of the most interesting things was the reveal of Project Q – a new Sony handheld gaming device. Granted, the reveal was brief and very minimal – it offered viewers the promise of Sony’s return to handheld gaming devices. Lest we forget the PS Vita.

What we know about Project Q so far

One thing to note is that – unlike the PS Vita – Project Q is not a cloud-streaming device, but instead uses Remote Play with the PlayStation 5 – A feature Sony has been pushing these past couple of weeks. Meaning you’ll constantly need connectivity to play games on it, whether you’re streaming these games directly from your own PlayStation 5 console or Sony’s internal servers remains to be seen. But this could provide a cheaper alternative than the console to those wanting to play Sony-exclusive games, especially after more news was released about Spider-man 2.

Sony Project Q release window prediction

Although no release date has been confirmed yet, the main man Jim Ryan, stated “later this year,” towards the end of 2023, we could end up seeing the launch of the Project Q. While this is a large window and it could even break into 2024, we suspect Q4 of 2023 is when we will all be able to get our hands on the Sony Project Q handheld.

Sony Project Q specs we hope to see

Once again, we don’t have any confirmed specs but we have seen that early prototypes show the console will look a lot like a PlayStation 5 controller but with a massive 8-inch LCD touchscreen in the center. The device sports adaptive triggers for haptic feedback and will include what you would come to expect from a handheld – Volume buttons, speakers, an audio input jack, etc. Though all this is subject to change upon full release.
