I'm also running a Whisperrock IV with a different fan (a Yate Loon) on a Palomino (70W core). 70W is a lot for such a cheap cooler to handle at low rpms so the Yate Loon is doing 2000 rpms but cools it nicely at that. Can't expect more from such a cheap cooler. It's been running stable ina 30C roo...

I have a WhisperRock IV. The base is horrid, but the performance isn't really that bad considering I have a Barton, which I think should be hotter than the Semprons and I didn't get that kind of temperatures. From the pics, the heat sink looks the same... no changes, same shabby fins and all. Just t...

I don't think its anymore than 18 or 19C right now. Vancouver hasn't been all that warm this summer though I have seen an increase in CPU temperatures. I have NO idea what idle temperature of my CPU is because it is NEVER idle(music). Its running at 10-20% usage and: CPU: 34C NorthBridge: 34C HDD: 3...

Re: cpu
Just touch the cpu sink close to the base. If your cpu is burning hot, the sink will be too. Regards. Its obviously burning hot. Which part of 77C and 99.5C says its not hot? sorry to resurrect, but that's not the point. it's like... if the TV says it's raining outside, does that mean it is? no. yo...

Both the VF-700 and ZM-80D are big-time overkill for the 9600XT. Simple, lightweight, fanless solutions should do fine. i would disagree. the 9600XT uses more electricity than a 9800 pro does. its heavily oc'd to make up for less pipelines. I have a 9600XT... I do not think it would even come close...

Fairly new to the game, here is my list of fortunes(and misfortunes) 1. Oil old 45mm(wtf?) fan in the old 400Mhz HP computer. (slight improvement) 2. Stuffed old socks, stuck various pieves of rubber on places in the case, and stuffed eggcrates in the case, basically cramming the case.(slight improv...

What to trust? BIOS or Speedfan?
First, some background information. I have been running my CPU passive when I am just normally surfing the net, listening to music(no hardcore gaming). I turn the fan off and the computer falls below ambient noise levels during day time. Speedfan generally reports temperatures of 45C - 74C, I haven'...

I'm not sure, but you may be able to snip the leads to the individual LEDs. But I dunno if it will affect the operation of the fan(I don't think so though). Are the sleeve bearing versions a lot more expensive? The sleeve bearing ones vibrate a lot less, but the LEDs would also be harder to disable ...

I guess that's too bad. There is no way you can mask that PCI cover without doing some more drastic changes such as spraying the internals of the case and matching the colors on whatever you are hanging the fan with. For me, I just grabbed the cheapest quietest fan I can get my hands on. In this cas...

If you do not mind the rather "ghetto" and unsightly appearance of applying a 80mm fan, it is very easily done. I have don't it myself through the bending of a PCI cover from the case, Actually, I do mind using a ghetto approach with my newish case (I got it 2 months ago). I've ordered a VF700 AlCu...

The rifles are not that good. When they start, they growl like a lion, then it subsides. The vibration level is hideously high. The only thing good about them is the rather good airflow they give. Maybe its just that I have quieted my rig since I got the fan, the the rifles have seem to gotten a bit...

Got the fan... First impression.... Holy smokes.... ITS SO BRIGHT!!!! LEDs are not mounted on the corners, instead it mounted on the stem that connects the motor to the frame. They point upwards instead of inside, which makes a really cool swirl affect when the fan spins. Now to how the fan feels. I...

Passive cooling on stock AXP 2600+ Barton
So far... I have achieved it for low load usage. All thanks the the northbridge register hack posted by..... I cannot locate the thread at the moment. Chip is AXP 2600+ Barton at stock clock speed(167FSB*11.5) and stock voltage(varies between 1.63-1.65). Motherboard is A7V600-X Heatsink is a fairly ...

Anyone have any idea how these run? They are rated at 1800rpm, and push 22cfm @ 22dba.
I have the 2500rpm rifle bearing ones bought from around 6 months ago that are pretty bad. But being sleeve bearings and spinning at such a slow speed is sparking my interest.

I'm out after redoing the videocard and CPU a month ago cpemma: that is the simplest lapping method I have seen, will try soon as I have 220, 400, and 600 sheets at home. Rusty075: that would be too bad... I would have wished...
