Re: F4 HD204UI Vibration variance?
I think F3's weren't the best to begin with, those were 4 platter designs.

A bad housing may leave the sata to usb bridge running. And 500 mW may not seem like a lot, but if you're buying an SSD for the low power usage, then it is a lot. The idea is to attach it a very low power server (something in the range of 2.5-5.0 W AC). It's mainly an excercise in how low can you go...

Power usage of typical external enclosure
I was thinking of getting a Intel X25-V SSD for a situation where i want to keep power usage down. The power usage is supposed to be very low for that drive, and it'd be a shame to raise it significantly because of the enclosure. Any idea what kind of power usage is typical? It'll be connected by es...

What 780G/785G motherboards offer dynamic VRM enabling?
I'm eying a 785G AM3 motherboard (in a few months probably), but these often come with 4, 5 or 8 phase cpu VRMs. I'm wondering which offer bios/hw driven VRM switching for optimal power usage (especially idle). It won't be running windows, so special software is not an option. Most of the reviews an...

Just check stores, i know i chose a yamaha because it didn't have a fan (i was looking at another model which did). A reciever with no speakers attached might stay cold'ish. I know i attached my fathers speakers once (i use it only for headphones atm) and then i knew why there was a huge piece of al...

Yamaha AV recievers usually don't have fans. Mine is 5 years old now, but this doesn't seem to have changed. Something like http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/prod ... ID=5000300
Ofcource you should check if like the sound of yamaha recievers.

I recently put together a pc, containing a samsung SH-S223F. I noticed when booting the ultimate boot cd that it only "clicked" a few times, without speeding up a lot. During continious access you do hear it, but it's not so bad (more noise than a good hard drive though). It also vibrates a bit. Ofc...

I've got 2 S166 HD161HJ and 8 T166 HD501LJ (no 160GB T166 to compare with, unfortunately). The S166 vibrates much, much less and is some 1~3 dB/A lower in both idle & seek. It comes with AAM enabled; disabling it gives seeks a little sharper, but still quite muted. Overall tonality is in higher fre...

I had the S166 in a usb case and the T166 lying on the floor(since the usb transfer was to slow for the initial data transfer of more than 100GB), so i did not compare them equally. I did notice they were better than P120's. While i do think the S166 is quiter, that could be due to AAM settings, whi...

I have a new S166 and a T166(320 GB), which replaced 2 out of 3 P120's in my system. I have a slight amount of remaining vibration in my case, due to my suspension style. This has decreased with the swap of two of the hard drives. Initial impressions are good. The drives are speedy, around 40% faste...

Worth replacing a SP2004C with a HD160HJ?
I have an opertunity to sell one my SP2004C at a loss of about 10-15 euros compared to the price of HD160HJ. I currently have 3 SP2004C's, one of which i will "degrade" to external backup (i need backup) and replace with a HD321KJ. My main OS drive (of which i only ~80 GB is partioned), is the other...

I'm not really looking forward to RMA'ing something abroad, also RMA'ing directly to Antec is not applicable in europe. I also noticed that someone got a 350 replaced by a 500, i don't want a 500, because i want a passive psu, not a semi-passive psu. Let's assume for the moment phantom 350's are no ...

RMA'ed a questionable Phantom 350, they offered alternative
I RMA'ed a Phantom 350 that was questionable, i just got a mail saying that they cannot get it anymore, they are offering me a Silentmaxx Fanless 400W model (the blue one). It's packaging has been opened (it's complete), but that's all it says. Also the warranty seems shorter, but that could be an a...

I replaced it with one the fans that originally came with my coolermaster stacker(i bought nexus fans, because i was unsure of the noise level), the sound signature is much more smooth now. Outside the case i had to have my ear within a few cm of the fan to hear any non-woosh sound. I'm fairly confi...

Chieftec GPS-350BB-101L, certainly not a loud unit
I bought this psu as a temporary replacement psu and i find it pretty quiet. I'm actually surprised by the level of noise. Only used for a day or two, but for a pretty much "standard" psu it's surprising (i bought it because there were one or two references on spcr that it wasn't loud). I paid about...

Nice joke, but someone must know what is needed for the overtemperature protection to reset? If overheating phantoms are likely to blow up mainbords. If component degradation is an issue after these kinds of events and at this age? I know there can be no certainty, but i'm not the only one with a ph...
