I just replied to your post in silent storage then saw this, HA HA. Anway, I don't know about replacing it with a Nexus. Personally I'd imagine it would be fine. The OCZs yate compared to the nexus are very close in design and spec. The only real difference that I know of is the use of plastic. Clea...

I think it's has more to do with the rest of your setup. I have the 520W version and mine is dead silent. Look at my system specs. I can run everything in my system at 5v, no problem. have a small picture of your setup? Maybe by seing your lay out we can give some advice. I think your over all syste...

Tom's Hardware Stress Test
This is a great article!
Their recomendations should be of no surprise to most SPCRs.
Some of the failures are interesting though.

I had an idea and was wonder what everyone else thinks. Shoudl I take my PSU (OCZ ModStream 520) and flipped it upside down. The cables will sit closer to the mobo, the OCZ is setup for BTX cabling. Then cut a hole in the top of my case to match the 120mm fan. The PSU will draw it's own air from out...

I had an AIW 9600. Great GPU! It can run Doom3 and HL2. Just need to have modest settings ;) 800x600 NoAA @ Medium Quality. That's pretty fare if you're not a PC gamer. If you are used to playing games on consoles those settings will drop your jaw. Mine never over heated. And I ran a very low air ci...

I'm assuming it doesn't move on it's own. It only moves when you move it, right? As long as that HSF is making contact with the GPU thats all that really matters. If you move your system a lot than maybe it's an issue. Otherwise I wouldn't sweat it. You said yourself the temps are good. I have the s...

Always looking for a new project... I made a bracket for the Zalman fan controller so it stays put better on sliding rails. I used an old cdrom drive that will never get used and cut away the area I needed. I put some u-channel rubber to tame the sharp edges. Here's some pictures: http://img88.image...

The Zalman fan controleer fits just fine behind the door. I mounted it flush just like the DVD±RW. The only thing that sucks about it is you have to mount it to those purple rails. And they can get wiggled loose in the back end because the Zalman fan controller only mounts with the front screws. I h...

I have a Raptor FDB 74GB. I keep mine suspended. Seek noise.... never heard it. Mine is dead quite. I have to open my case up if I want to here my Raptor. Maybe I got lucky ;) The loudest thing in my system would be the SilentBoostK8 @ 11v. But I run it at 4v unless I'm gaming. I can't here the seek...

Okay, so here's the update... I bought an ATi AIW X800XT from Newegg for US$333. I was pretty happy with it as far as sound goes. The stock fan is far from quiet, but the card controls the fan on it's own. Keeps it pretty quite when idle. If you were not a total SPCR geek you'd be happy with the sou...

You are right fraggable. I used ATiTool to run the fan at 100%... very loud. I just didn't notice it when I was playing HL2 because of in game sounds. At idle my fan runs 50%. I'm playing around with 3D detection and underclocking. I run the core at 250MHz in 2D and default (500MHz) in 3D. I don't b...

Maybe this is a dumb question but... Can't you just plug the Zalman fan into the gfx card. Just make an adaptor right...? The PWM should be able to control the fan speed of the Zalman, right? If my assumption is correct, the header on the X800XT is this: Red = 12v, Black = Ground. Get a 4pin -> 2pin...

Well, I got my ATi AIW X800XT. It didn't fit. I had to cut the top row of fins off the NB cooler so it could fit. While I was at it, I bent all the other fins downward to give it extra room. I might be getting that Zalman VGA cooler (VF-700 I think). That will definately need more room. Funny thing ...

So let's say the Zalman cooler fits just fine on the GPU. What does it sound like at 5v ~ 12v. I'd assume that 5v should be fine as far as sound and cooling as long as you are not pushing the card. 12v seems like it would be loud, but I guess if you are playing games than it doesn't really matter, y...

Does anyone know the dBa of the zalman at various voltages? The only pros I think the AC has is: 1) Exhaust heat out back. 2) Can plug fan into VGA card. If you are a true SPCRer build a shroud for the Zalman ;) If the AC runs quiet enough, which I don't know if it does, it would be the better solut...

Retrieve HDD Temps From An External Enclosure?
I have an IR Thermometer but that just gives me the temps of the surface area of the enclosue.
Does anyone know of a software solution that can retrieve the temps from the HDD itself via SMART?

Lenny, I did think about drilling the holes bigger but when the system is already completely assembled then I don't think it's a wise decision ;) Plus I think the grommets that ANtec supplies with these cases are better than the EAR grommets. Here's a link to buy them: http://www.antec.com/Detail.bo...
