Re: UPS CyberPower CP1500EPFCLCD / CP1500PFCLCD
I can confirm that CP900EPFCLCD also seems to be dead-silent ( when on AC, it will buzz if the AC is out, but that is expected ), even with my ear pressed to its case.

Re: Help needed replacing a Synology DS412+ fans
In the top menu from DSM ( you open if by clicking the start like button from top-left ) you'll have System Information. Open that application and in the 1st tab ( general ), under Thermal Status you should see a green colored circle. If you hover your mouse over it, you'll see the system temperatur...

Re: Help needed replacing a Synology DS412+ fans
http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=200&t=58027#p222365 You need to enable ssh on your NAS and then modify the config files via a ssh client ( like putty ) or with a scp client ( winscp - I think this would be easier for most people ). Take care to modify both scemd.xml files ( /usr/syno/e...

Re: Help needed replacing a Synology DS412+ fans
A bit late, but you might be approaching this the wrong way. It's much easier to edit scemd.xml and create your own fan profile, than change the actual fans. When run at 8%@15Hz they are quiet enough that I can only hear the idling WD30EFRXes.

Re: Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell Processor
What I would really like to know is how well does it undervolt and if the DZ87KLT-75K allows for undervolting ( it seems to do via the cou voltage offset, but I couldn't get clear info about that ).

Silent[ish] NAS
I just wanted to report that I got a Synology DS413 and out of the box it was way too noisy for me. Fortunately, editing the scemd.xml config fixed that in an easy way ( I set the fans to run at 7% until the HDD reaches 40C - the default profile had the fans running at a minimum of 23% ) and the noi...

Re: Super silent graphic cards!
There's a simple reason why SPCR couldn't measure lower than 11dba. AFAIK that's the noise floor of their anechoic chamber. What this means is that it's extremely unlikely that any "normal" room can come anywhere close to that.

Re: GTX 670 launched
I have the normal version, not the TOP one. The TOP version is overclocked ( which in term means that its GPU is binned ), but in all other regards it seems identical to the non-TOP version. The local shop where I get most of my hardware got me one ( I guess it's one of the first to arrive in my cou...

Re: GTX 670 launched
The Palit GeForce GTX 670 JetStream and Gainward GTX 670 Phantom non-reference coolers look interesting. The Palit makes just as much noise as the reference model, Asus seems to be the quieter one. Oh, well I assume they're ALL too loud for SPCR standards. Those non-reference coolers interest me fr...

Re: Quiet 24" monitor
I have a Samsung BX2450 and the monitor is definitely silent and the external PSU brick is not audible in my case ( if you actually have your ear at ~5cm from it you can clearly hear it "buzz"; at 10-15cm from it I can't hear anything ).

Try the method described here: http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appmeth ... e_v1.1.pdf ... it's for AS5, but the method is good regardless of the particular thermal paste you intend to use

Re: Heatpipes are useless at low CFM?
My experience is quite different. I've been "passively" cooling CPUs for years ( by that I mean that there is no fan on the actual CPU cooler, but I always have a fan on the case ). My current i7 2600k is cooled by a HR-02, without any fan on it. The load temps I get are 77C ( using IBT 2.5.1, for 6...

Fortron Zen 400 & P180B & ASUS P5B Dlx
I was wondering if I can use a Fortron Zen 400 in a P180B (the P182 version, with the holes cut in the tray and space to pull the cables behind the mobo tray) with an ASUS P5B Deluxe mobo; currently I am using a Silverstone ST30NF to power my system, but under GPU load it produces an annoying (for m...

Those are decent temperatures; the MB is a tad hot (I have a P5B Dlx and the MB temp never gets above 46C, even after 24hr+ of Intel TAT), but the CPU temp is quite ok (I get loads of up to 60C+ (core) and ~54C (according cu ASUS Probe) with Intel TAT), so 45C is quite ok, if it's a load temperature

I use a HR-03 passively on an OCed 7900GT (540 / 1550); the CPU is also passively cooled by a Ninja; the only exhaust fan is a Nexus @ ~900RPM; the load temp is around 63-65C (with rthdribl full-screen, 1280x1024); adding a 90mm Nexus @ 750RPM on the HR-03 shaved about 10-11C from the load temperatu...

The new revisions of P180 and P180B have all the features that the P182 has, but they maintain their original colors (P180 silver and P180B black) - at least that's what I've been told by a local vendor when I asked about when they'll receive a stock of P182 cases That would be strange if it's true...

The stock mounting system is quite bad (in my experience); the C2D HSes aren't even close to being flat (at least none of the 4 C2Ds I've tested were) and the HR-01's base isn't that great either (I have one and it's not exactly flat nor very well finished); first of all you should take of the HR-01...

The load temperature I mentioned (57C) was obtained after 8 hours of TAT (keep in mind that in the P180 the only fan that worked as an exhaust was the Nexus @ 800RPM, so if you also have a PSU with an 120mm fan, your temps should be better), so it's probably at least 5C more than the temp you would ...
