P150 + A8V + Kingston KVR ECC
Antec P150: ATX case, NeoHE 430 PSU Asus A8V: Socket 939, AGP, ECC support RAM: Kingston ValueRAM KVR400X72C3A/512 x2 I know you prefer non-Asus boards, but mine works fine with SuSE and Knoppix. I think it has some over/under-clocking/volting options I haven't explored. You can download the manual ...

A8V + P150 works great
I can confirm that the P150 + NeoHE 430 and the A8V are a safe bet -- I'm posting from a brand-new machine with that very combination. :-) I'm currently using a rather low-end AGP card -- a Rage 128 -- until I move my fanless 9600 non-pro from my old rig. There's a great deal on the P150 at NewEgg r...

A8V + NeoHE 430 = OK
I picked up a P150 in Fry's (mistake -- much cheaper on NewEgg for my Asus A8V motherboard. Thus far, the included NeoHE 430 works fine with the A8V. I don't have the PSU's exact serial number handy, but it begins with S0511, and the warranty seal is broken.

Follow-up: A8V + NeoHE = OK
I finally got my new system together: Athlon 64 3200+ with E6 Venice core, Antec P150 case with NeoHE 430 PSU. Works like a charm; I'll post later with more info. I haven't tried running any 3D games yet.

Update: OK with different PSU
Yes, I do have another PC, but the PSU has a 20-pin main connector. I'm trying to follow all DFI's suggestions, including using a PSU with a 24-pin connector instead of using a 20->24 pin adapter. Update: The motherboard starts reliably with a no-name PSU with three 12v rails (borrowed from a friend...

Shark sucks; LanParty won't boot
This post points out (at least) two components to avoid. The moral of the story, I guess, is research before you buy. Also, I need some advice about a bizzare boot problem (explained at the end). About a month ago, my brother decided to build a new PC for gaming. I've been casually researching compo...

Gigabyte GA-K8V Ultra?
Does anybody have a Gigabyte GA-K8V Ultra-939 motherboard? Where did you get it from? I can't find them anywhere online. Also, how would you rate the board -- any specific praise or complaints? I'm looking for a board with these features: - Socket 939 - AGP slot - Via chipset - ECC support So far, t...

NeoHE problems with nVidia chipsets only?
Some time ago, I put together a shopping list for a new PC: Antec P150 + NeoHE PSU, Asus A8V, an Athlon 64 CPU -- I haven't decided on exact model -- and Kingston ECC RAM. (I already have drives and sound/video cards.) But I've put off buying it all after reading about the compatability problems wit...

Extra info?
The amdcompare.com site will let you compare up to 5 chips side-by-side. I made the chart so I could compare more than 5 at a time. The data is AMD's official published data. However, I'd be willing to add more data if the data is accurate and/or can be confirmed with AMD. I think stuff like undervo...

I just added a column noting 32/64-bit mode capability for each chip. Thanks for the tip, Steve!

Desktop Athlon 64 and Sempron Processor Info
My brother and I are doing some really deep (read: obsessive, nerdy, ridiculous) comparisons of the various AMD CPUs for desktop PCs. To save time, I put this chart together. It lists both box and tray part number, stepping, voltage, maximum-rated temperature, thermal power, and the usual slew of pe...

Asus A8V + Linux + Gimp
The MSI ATI Xpress200 motherboard is interesting, but it is micro-ATX form factor. It looks like it has fewer USB ports (4) and IDE (2) than the other mobos I'm looking at. Also, the ATI chipset less widely used than Nvidia's nforce chipset. I'd rather stick with nforce3 or nforce4 boards full size...
