I have just received the 5th one! In short, I will not be as crazy next time to buy 5 drives from Seagate again. I think not even one. That one had crazy write caching issue which meant that every time I was copying to that disk all the programs became totally unresponsive, I mean I had to wait 4 s...

I know, but I can only report what happened. The power unit on this PC (P3) will also trigger after some time at 100% CPU, but it very rarely happens with what I do. It's a small form factor desktop, all components are cleverly crowded in (Compaq). As an update, the drive wasn't satisfying either in...

HP Pavilion dv7-1070 : fan is driving me mad
The dv7 is a deluxe notebook, pretty expensive. The fan sounds like cheap junk. Even if you deactivate 'always on' in the BIOS (it's default when they sell you this junk), it starts and would stop only for minutes, then start again for hours. The noise is unbearable. What's the point of good speaker...

Disappointed in Samsung SP2514N
I have an older Compaq P3 machine. The HD I had put in it was a Hitachi Deskstar 120 GB. It's a fine HD, not whining, but it regularly emits an annoying 'scream', like a reset of the heads or what, 3 seconds, it always did so. The noise is quite strange and noticeable, and I want some more discretio...

LaCie little disk USB 250 GB
Bought one LaCie little disk USB 250 GB, so here's some feedback: - Price paid: 189 EUR - The USB cable is very short, less than 10cm: the HD must be very close to the computer. However, an extension USB cable is included if you wish to put your disk further. The USB cable is also attached to the di...

Have one WD passport 120 GB too. 160 EUR 6 months ago. Nearly inaudible, vibrates a bit (I put it on a handkerchief). No need for an adaptor or (if your laptop is not too rubish) a second USB slot (contrary to LaCie)! Good for laptop on AC, otherwise it draws from the battery. Some strange clicks, l...

I was in the same situation , wanted to replace a very noisy 2 GB HD in an otherwise quiet system (fanless P1). I put in a "Seagate U Series X 20", a 5,400 RPM entry level model with 20 GB capacity. The BIOS only recognizes 8 GB but that's enough! This is very, very quiet. But I think there's no ext...

I have 2 Seagate 7200.7 200 GB SATA in a system, bought 9 months ago in Belgium. I bought that because I didn't trust Samsung! In your range I give them '2' They are not really silent by themselves but if you manage properly, they do have the potential to be very quiet. If you directly mount them yo...

No the quick changes in temps happen for good reasons, it's totally in phase with the task manager green light, but I was surprised because on other systems (P4, AMD), the CPU activity is reflected more slowly in - reported - temps. I'll give MBM a try, because in Speedfan it's not too clear which s...

Pentium 3 coppermine quick temp questions
Hi I got an older P3 system, small factor Compaq Deskpro EN with a pentium III 866 MHz 'coppermine'. It is very quiet. I worry because if the idle temp is a cool 27 C, the load (100%)temp is more than double that, 56 C (speedfan readings) (And the temp falls back quickly too after load) 1. Should I ...
