Re: Asus P8Z77-V Pro: Xpert Fan Control for LGA1155
I wish the 4-pin CPU fan header would control 3-pin fans like the chassis fan headers. That would make it a viable motherboard only solution. Why is ASUS not giving the CPU fan headers the same functionality as the chassis fan headers?

Re: EVGA GTX 460 Fan/Voltage Bios Mod for a quieter GPU
Thank you for your research and hard work! I used this successfully on my Galaxy 560Ti 448 cores. The only difference was that the HEX was off by 1 value. My string was: 47 04 04 21 00 06 26 C4 09 20 00 00 22 I set mine to 10% minimum with a HEX value of 0A (number zero and letter A) The lowest it i...

BFG 9800GT EcoIntelligence + Prolimatech MK-13 (100% silent)
I have a Dell T5500 workstation with 2 x E5520 Xeon CPUs. They put out some heat, but nothing unmanageable. I have been waiting for a long time to buy a decent GPU to replace my fanless MSI 9500GT. It was really hard to find a GPU with 75W power max and have it be fanless. So, I had to make my own m...

Low Profile, fanless, video+audio HDMI?
I am building an HTPC and need it to be quiet. I also need it to have HDMI output supporting both video and sound to connect it to my TV. I like nVidia 9000-series of GPUs because of their superior DXVA implementation, but I can't find any card that fits the specifications I am looking for. My mothe...

Here is a running discussion: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1046863 Personally, the computer performs well. No problems playing 1080p MKVs. I do have an issue with the noise, the power supply has a tiny fan which is annoying. It's not super loud, but it has that droning noise and i...

I purchased an Acer X-1200 to use with my Plasma TV. Initial impressions: I have an X-1200 with the 4850e CPU, I bought it from Circuit City, my first one was defective, it would not boot, the CPU fan would just spin like a jet engine. I exchanged it for a new one, it works normally. I have mine con...

It is certainly possible to have a fanless heatsink and maybe even more with a BTX style case. If you look at the Gateway machine you can see what I am talking about. I have had no luck finding such a thing for my BTX Dell system... :( http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/3387/11245723872mdwwpu7yi36l1bp...

I went the NAS route after i wired my house for GigE. I went with the Infrant ReadyNAS X6 and 3x250GB 7200.8 drives. I placed the NAS in another room. My main PC has just 1 Samsung 200GB drive which is pretty quiet. Performance wise it's not bad, but I had to invest in GigE equipment and cabling + G...

I have the same case in the form of the Precision 380. I haven't played with it much, but I do agree that there is a lot more vibration noise compared to my old 400SC case which was mostly plastic. I don't really want to take out the drives from the cage, and the plastic is there to hold them secure...

BTX case + 7800GT + CPU cooler???
I have a BTX which orients the GPU on the top. Noy my question is if it's possible to get a CPU heatsink (passive) and replace my 7800GT stock HSF. The only issue I am trying to resolve is the mounting holes for CPU heatsinks, are they adaptable to graphics cards?? I want something like this: http:/...

good news. I installed the RivaTuner utility and you can control the fan RPMs for the 7800-series. The default speed is 43% the lowest you can set it at is 25% which reduces the noise a great amount. I also clocked my core to 200MHz when doing only 2D stuff to offset the slower fan speed. The origin...

I got the BFG 7800GT and the fan control works. It's loud when booting but as soon as the drivers load I can hear it quiet down. Of course it's not quiet enough, I can hear the whooshing sound, it's the loudest and most expensive piece of equipment in my PC. I am waiting to change out the cooler whe...

My BFG 7800GT is loud. It is the loudest component in my system. I wish there were a software control to quiet it down. I am thinking about returning it, but since I got such a good deal I would like to keep it and figure out a way to cool it passively. During full load it only goes up to 72C and id...
