It had some stability problems while overclocking. I'll be interested to see if the new AN8 32X or AT8 32X boards (with a similar heatpipe cooler that also cools the PWMs) will be able to improve on the AN8 performance. I think that the whole market's going towards dual video cards on these high-end...

I'll be back soon Edit : first try: BSOD, maybe due to faulty video card installation. i took out tv card, dvd drive and the EZ plug for SLI. now i can boot, time f...

People continue to buy and be disappointed with the NeoHE power supplies because Antec is continuing to market them heavily, and a lot of people still do not know about the problems that plague the product line.

The reviews from NewEgg tell a slightly different tale, with one user receiving a NeoHE power supply that failed to start four different Athlon 64-based machines. One particularly troubling fact: One of our own posters sent his NeoHE power supply back to Antec, understanding he would get a new one. ...

To AntecRep Re: NeoHE 430W problems

So, AntecRep, inquiring minds want to know: What exactly was wrong with all those bad NeoHE PSUs? Now that the problem seems to have been fixed with all new units, what exactly was causing all those old NeoHE power supplies to fail, or to not work with certain ATX12V 2.2 compliant motherboards? Too ...

Some are reporting the Akasa Amber fans to be a good quiet option if you're paranoid about bearing failure. Every dorm room I have ever been in has been extremely dusty, so I've tortured my Panaflo and Yate Loon fans with all the dirty mess I can, but the panaflos at 5V are still chugging along, and...

My Fortron 300W is in its third year. Its Yate Loon D12SL-12 fan is continuing just fine, and it's still one of the quietest power supplies I've experienced, while still providing great airflow in my case. It's one of the best purchases I've ever made for my computer. It runs 24/7 whenever I'm at sc...

If I were doing that metal grille thing with a PSU duct, I would have found 5.25"-bay mounting kits for the hard drives and put the hard drives in that airflow path, and then just done without that entire 3.5" bay thing or the 92mm fans.

AMD X2 Processors - hotter than single-core?

I'm looking at cooling an AMD Athlon X2 4200+ with a Thermalright XP-90 and some kind of quiet 92mm fan on it. Perhaps a L1BX panaflo or a Delta tri-blade fan from Sidewinder, on a channel of an MCubed T-Balancer. Does this sound reasonable or do you think that the fan will constantly run fast? At i...

The old Nidec-made ones were a quality part, though. As fans go, but not as silent fans go. If I were building a server to go in the basement, I would go ahead and use them for that, but I wouldn't buy any of the newer non-Nidec ones.

I would wonder if the "PSU test" procedure actually really stressed the PSU - if you wanted to really stress a PSU, attach as many hard drives as you can find to the 4-pin molex connectors. They don't have to be connected to the motherboard, just the power supply. In fact, if you have a bunch of cas...

Don't forget sunon's Vapo bearing with the Magnetic Levitation system. Ideally, the journal never touches the casing. The only point of contact, theoretically, is the very small cap at the end of the rotor shaft.

The fans are honestly probably all right at 5v, at least for a second machine or where people are looking to get close to silence with a minimal investment. I need to get a 12cm version and just try it myself.

So is this big fan roundup actually going to happen here pretty soon?

If they haven't been suggested yet, test the 25mm, low-speed Delta Tri-Blade fans from Sidewinder computers, and the Akasa Amber fans (with the amber colored impeller). Probably not for this fan roundup, but for the next one.

The 5v rail on these power supplies is way too weak to be useful. Future revisions need to be able to supply an extra 5-10 amps on the 5v rail.

People should be sure to post the serial number of their PSUs. Apparently we can figure out what month the power supplies were manufactured in, which would help us figure out if Antec has ironed out all the bugs, or if only those power supplies made in September and October 2005 were the bad ones. Don't use the passive Scythe heatsink - it needs to be used with a vertically-oriented motherboard to let the air flow upwards between its fins. If you use the passive Scythe heatsink, you need some kind of airflow duct over it or something to keep from toasting your processor.
