Re: Is it possible to get POWER and silence?
If money truly is not an issue: http://www.fusionio.com/products/iodriveoctal/ This is a solid state hard drive replacement in the form of a double wide PCIe x16 2.0 "card", though "contraption" might be a better word. This would be many orders of magnitude faster than any array of physical hard dis...

Yate Loons ticking, after years of good use
Two or three of my five orange Yate Loon D12SL-12 fans have begun ticking recently. Actually, I've noticed it for a few months, but it's suddenly become louder since yesterday, enough to be quite bothersome to a picky quiet-computing-nut like me. Are the currently available black D12SL-12 YLs just a...

Re: Electronic Noise and Tinnitus
Silence is deafening. In the days following September 11, 2001, my dad came by and we went camping. All air traffic was grounded at that time. Dad commented that he could notice the noise difference: it was more like when he was a child, before there was any significant amount of air traffic. We don...

Building new high end system, need quiet psu
Upgrading my system soon, going to be pretty dang fast, but I want to keep it as quiet as possible. I need to determine which PSU I should get, or if maybe my existing S-12 430 will work. How much power will this need? I'd prefer not spending a fortune, but I will if I have to. Conroe E6600 running ...

Re: mobo speaker on Asus A8N-SLI Premium?
There does not seem to be a case fan in my P180 either. You meant speaker I presume. I don't think the P180 includes a speaker, mine doesn't seem to have one either. My A8N-SLI Deluxe does not have a built in speaker, which I found disappointing. It made initial troubleshooting very hard (first mot...

Thinking bout buying a better laid-out mobo right now honestly. I looked around a bit before buying my current motherboard for exactly that. There aren't many to be found. It seems the NF4 needs to be in that area to function. This one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813123236...

I had one of these for a while on an older system. Before I started caring about the sound my PC emits. It wails a very hideous note. It sounds "neat" when spinning up or shutting off, but it's just so loud and whiney that it takes over the room while operating. Eventually one of the magnets in the ...

clarkkent333: Your HD might be a bit warm. CPU temps seem good for a dual core. MB is very warm. Could be the nature of that heatpipe solution. How are you checking temps? I have three temp readings plus more for each HD I connect. I'd think you should have three as well. I'm using the A8N SLI Delux...

note: my "panic" is sarcasm. The main observation made was that with the FanMate, I'm running 1380rpm. Without the FanMate I appear to be running 1490rpm. I guess the fanmate runs it slower even at the max setting. It's also strange that both of the fans run at the same 1380 when using the fanmate o...

Decoupled my unmodified yate loon (nexus type) and P180 pics
Decoupling a Nexus type fan (Yate Loon Orange) without cutting plastic. Not hard, and maybe it's been covered a lot, but here's what I did! Click here for pics of the process and results I discovered a large portion of the noise coming from my system was the solid mounted rear fan in the P180. So I ...

Orange yate loon, reporting 1500 rpm?
I have two orange yate loon 120mm fans in my system. At first I just had one, connected to a zalman fanmate at max setting. It would report around 1380rpm all the time. I removed the fanmate from the connection, now it's reporting about 1490rpm all the time. I replaced a case fan with another orange...

The thwapping sound... Most likely something is getting hit by the fan blades, whether you can see it or not. It is probably a part of the heatsink itself. I've seen this many times on video cards, northbridges, other places. You should replace the heatsink and fan to truly cure that problem. I have...

The Premium is probably fine. It's also nice to get a more mature setup for your first build. Mature meaning it's had a few BIOS revisions and some bugs have been worked out. That 32X has a new chip on it that apparently needs additional cooling, I wonder what the heck it is? The non 32x SLI boards ...

If you're really set on dual core, I agree with getting the 3000. With the XP120 you should have no trouble running it at least 2200, the speed of a 3200+. I say if you've got the ability to go faster with NO downside, why not do it? "Small" overclocks on this processor breed are a no brainer and yo...

A64s with the VENICE core will all go about the same speed if you're willing to overclock. The increase in cache from 512k to 1mb results in an insignificant performance increase, the clock speed is what really makes these chips sing. Unlike Pentiums which need gobs of cache just to keep from trippi...
