2 8800 cards = loud. No way around it, unless you plan on using water. Even then, the PSU will probably be running its fan at or near 12V when you stress the cards.

The 9500 can be a great cooler but it's not a great quiet cooler. The TR Ultra-120 or Scythe Ninja would be better suited for that task.

Do you plan on overclocking? Which features of the P5W DH Deluxe do you need that other mobos don't have?

Core 2 Duo is faster than the X2, so you might wanna check that out. If you OC, you can get an E6300 and Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 for about $335 after shipping, though it doesn't come with an HSF. EDIT: Oops, didn't see that you're Canadian. Core 2 duo isn't enough faster to warrant the price differenc...

I'm not a fan of fanless PSUs (no pun intended) or even semi-fanless PSUs because the internals must run hotter than those of fanned PSUs. Not good for longevity. Core 2 Duo is faster than the X2, so you might wanna check that out. If you OC, you can get an E6300 and Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 for about $...

Why don't you replace the fan? While you're at it, inspect the capacitors to see if they're visibly going to crap.

That is a pretty ambitious computer for your first build. Glad you went with quality components. I can't comment on all the hardware but I'm gonna offer advice on the video card...DON"T DO SLI. It is a stupid marking ploy for you to buy two video cards when 1 faster card will be cheaper and faster....

If you take the drive out of the case and place it on your desk (try putting it on one of the long, thin sides so it stands up), what temp does it stabilize at?

Note: make sure no conductors or magnets are nearby.

Wakko....it would be easier to replace the noisy fans with better units. About $12 will get you two Yate Loons at JabTech. PWM....pulse width modulation. Sounds more difficult than it is. It is a method to regulate fan voltage, without using heat-producing resistors. Basically the 12v going to a fa...

The 520W version has 40A on the +12V rails. More than the S12-600.

How much do the Samsung HD400LJ cost? I checked Froogle and got 47 prices (widely varying, BTW). What's the problem? Froogle doesn't really cater to Aussies, right? They're about $230, which is a bit less than the same size WD drives at $275 (but with only 8mb cache as opposed to 16) Cache size isn...

Well then, get a fan controller that decreases voltage (through resistance), not one that uses PWM to decrease speed.
