Core 2 in a Sonata..II!
Just thought I'd post the "final" (as much as these things can be...) version of my recent rebuild inside my Sonata II. Basically, I've gone with 2 large, slow fans front and back, and kitted out everything I can with large, passive coolers that make use of the case airflow. The front fan isn't stri...

Not really possible, since the drive mounts flush to the side of a 3.5" bay. This means there's no space for any damping/baffling material, nor any space to decouple the drive from the casework. Best you can do if you want to keep the drives in a 3.5" bay is to suspend the entire bay itself, or inst...

Aerocase Condor on a 7800GS AGP (~1.3mb of pics)
Hey, Just thought I'd post up a mini-review of Aerocase's Condor, which is one of the few passive coolers I've found that'll work (without modification) on an AGP 7800GS. Pictures speak louder than words, so here goes: The package arrived in a strong little box filled with packing chips, and the con...

A Ninja with no fan (just quite close to the 120mm rear fan mount) keeps my 3.4 Northwood well under 50c at load, and is currently....31c at idle. Ambient temp is in the 17-20c range. The rear fan is a 5v SilentX 38mm-deep thing, which is inaudible. It's also the only case fan in the system. The 3.4...

I've modded my 7800GS in a similar way to that you suggest miller. Check my post at http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewto ... 013#259913 for pics and stuff. Works really well on that card, and it draws a fair amount of current, all things considered.

Just thought I'd share the mod I made to my 7800GS to quieten it down :). Basically removed the shroud and the original fan from the cooler, and remounted the cooler using some fresh thermal paste (the RAM interface was those wee cotten-soaked-in-paste type things, not the most effective). I then at...

So you mean the Papst fan is so strong that it is overwhelming the two exhaust fans in the PSU, effectively using the PSU as an intake? Can you actually see the PSU fans start to turn the wrong way, when you turn on the Papst fan? Yes, exactly. It's not like I even have the Papst at full tilt, it's...

"Backwards" airflow through a PSU - bad?
Hey all :D Just wondering if anyone has experienced this before. I'm running a first-generation 480w Tagan PSU in my Sonata II, powering my (don't hit me) 5 HDs, 7800GS and 3.4ghz Northwood P4. I've always had a mild concern about the Tagan PSU, since the fans *never* spin up, despite the casing of ...

Actually, looks to me like it'll only take a single slot - the crossflow fan sits out at an angle from the card, on the side of it effectively. The heatsink itself only blocks a single slot, while the bracket to hold the fan takes the backplane space for that slot only...at least, that's what it loo...

mentawl , Welcome to SPCR!!! Just my curiosity, what's the driver version you're using? (Same question for furymouse , btw.) If the flickering has not yet gone away, and if you're a bit adventurous you might want to try beta driver - who knows? If interested, head over to download page of Guru3D . ...

I've got the same flicking upon browsing video files/launcing a game/doing anything that involves video or 3D. I -think- it's when the video card switches to the higher "3D" clockspeed - which mine seems to do even upon launching Java applications. Variations in clockspeed don't seem to affect it. S...
