Hmm, my computer seems to have crashed after 6h30m of Prime95. The monitor was blank when I woke up this morning and the system didn't respond. That's twice I've had that in 2 days, once @ 1.35V and once at AUTO settings. Could I be dealing with a malfunctioning CPU? I've never had any troubles with...

Well, you know how warm the human body normally is, right? So when idle, take off the side panel and touch the heatsink with your fingers (hold the fan with your hand for a few seconds if you need to). Now describe how it felt, was it warm or hot? this way you can at least be a bit more sure if the...

63C load, right? Not idle temperature, correct? How's ambient temperature there? Yes, that's the maximum load temperature of one of the 2 cores. The idle temps are around 31-35°C/39-42°C for the 2 cores. What do you mean with ambient temperature? I don't have a thermometer, but I would say it's t...

A64 X2 6000+ Brisbane temperature issue
Hey guys, According to my temperature monitoring software, my A64 X2 6000+ Brisbane gets too hot. The maximum temperature I've observed during the last few weeks was a peak of 63°C today with CPUID Hardware Monitor, probably because of the warm weather. According to AMD the maximum safe operating t...

The thing is that my motherboard doesn't support Phenom (Grrr...) and shops seem to be selling their last supplies of AM2 CPUs, so it's now or never if I don't want to buy second-hand. Currently the 3.1GHz A64 X2 6000+ (ADV6000DOBOX/ADV6000IAA5DO) looks like the most attractive choice to me. It's 65...

A64 X2 6400+/6000+ and XP-90/S12 500 question
Hi guys, I'm going to buy an A64 X2 6000+ or 6400+ for my system shortly (probably 6000+). Do you guys think my XP-90 + 92mm Nexus fan can cool these sufficiently? I've been very happy with my current configuration concerning noise and temperature levels. My 4000+ is running @ 42°C right now with t...

Of course, the problem now is that you are cooling the component with the temp sensor better, and everything else worse. If other parts of the card were in direct contact with the stock HSF and are not anymore, you have reason to be concerned. Then I have no reason to be concerned as that is not th...

Hm, aren't those to position a fan vertically? But, I think I've found some solutions. Either a Sunbeam Wherever PCI rack (which isn't an option in my case since it blocks my outtake fan), or a homemade PCI slot cooler like this one.

Fan mounting bracket for PCI slot
I'm looking for fan mounting brackets similar to this one which can hold a 80mm/92mm fan horizontally. It looks like a nice way to quietly cool a graphics card with passive heatsink because you can choose your own fan, you don't have to upgrade it every time you buy a new graphics card (unlike the H...

Yesterday I've installed an HR-03 with Nexus 90mm fan on the card. GPU temperature dropped 50°C!! It went from 99°C to 52°C, is that crazy or what? I can't believe MSI put such a crappy passive cooler on this card. I've had nothing but bad experiences with MSI graphics cards this past yea...

A Thermalright HR-03 is only going to cool the bottom of the card if you have a fan fitted? There aren't any components on the top, so what would be the point of cooling that side? I think as it is now, my heatsink is dumping heat on the top instead of cooling it. In any case, my CPU fan and top fr...

Removing the PCI blanking plates under the card has the advantage of helping cool the other components on the bottom of the card. :) Well, as you can see on my pictures above, I have an intake vent in one slot. That's as far as I dare to go. :D Looking at that picture you posted, it seems the heats...

So long as you ground yourself to get rid of static build up before touching the card (touching a grounded metal water pipe for example) you should be ok. I don't think that's correct. If the metal water pipe is at a potential that differs 20.000V from the component, you can still easily fry it. I ...

Yeah, I wouldn't want any performance hits. Maybe I should get my hands dirty and get a Thermalright HR-03. I could position it upside down and pull cool air from the bottom up with a Nexus 92mm fan, like the last picture on this page. Cool and quiet, garanteed. The only thing is, I'm afraid of dama...

i have a XFX 7950GT passive, temperature never went above 70'C under load, 3dmark or gaming. usually idle at 50 ish, peak at 65~67. That's a very nice load temp. Idle temp isn't much of an issue for me, usually at 51-54°C. what case are you using? i'm thinking better designed airflow in the case, ...

Need extra cooling for my passive 7950GT (99°C)
About 6 weeks ago I bought a passive MSI GF 7900GS and was happy with its temperature, it was comparable with that of my previous passive GF 7600GT which went up to 85°C @ load during a hot summer day. Unfortunately, the 7900GS was DOA (artifacts), just like the 7600GT I had owned before it. After ...

Hm, I wouldn't really want to have to unplug the LEDs myself and possibly damage the controller in the process. The SilverStone looks nice, especially with the inclusion of the rear panel. But using the rear panel would beat the purpose of what I was aiming for. The wires would get all over my graph...

Fan controller without LEDs?
I've been looking for a fan controller that has no LEDs or has the option to turn them off and fits in a 3.5" bay, but so far no luck. Does anyone know a fan controller that fits this description? If anyone is going to ask why I don't want LEDs, I find them distracting and don't want the room to lig...

Do you notice any improvement if you remove the cable ties? I though they would transfer vibration? Sorry for the late reply. :) I have thought about that, but I think the effect of the zip ties is negligible. They're not tightened, otherwise the elastic string would be useless of course. They're j...

Here's my contraption. Made it about a year ago I think. A bit of elastic string (used for clothing), 6 metal pieces to hang it up, some screws, the bottom of a broken floppy drive for support and some zip ties as a fail safe mechanism. http://users.edpnet.be/tom/computer/2.jpg Works great! No, I'm sure he didn't mean ground. Some switches only interrupt one wire (blue or brown) when switched off. Luckily, as I discovered yesterday, my power strip interrupts both so my PSU has always been entirely off while working inside. On the pictures here in the S12-430 review , you can see the sw...

SeaSonic S12-430 power switch
My SeaSonic S12-430 has a power switch at its back. Does anyone know what it does exactly? Someone told me that when you turn off a power strip that has a switch, it can still leave the devices connected to the phase wire (whatever that is). I wonder if this applies to my PSU, because whenever I wor...

I still don't fully understand what you're saying andyb. Right, I remember having to push the Power button on those older PCs to shut them down indeed. But I've read a lot about ATX PSU's not having a power switch. I think I have one of them in an older P3 system. What about those? this will of course not do any harm if your PC is not already turned on bu...
