Need a super low power hard drive.
I'm currently looking to get a hard drive to hook up to a USB port on a in car stereo head unit. The idea being I'll fill it with music, shove it in the glove compartment and shuffle through all the tunes whilst driving. Problem is most, head units have a single USB socket that can only provide 500m...

Quick update now I have the Palit 9400GT card installed. First things first, it gets hot, very hot. Ok, its upside down and has another PCI card directly below it, which I guess is not ideal, but going to be common in many cramped slimline cases. Without a case fan blowing directly onto it, the card...

Didn't take not of its speed, shall have to check that one and compare against the 92mm one. That said I think if I drill some extra holes I should be able to fit the 92mm one my case anywhere, which will probably be a better route all round. Only thing is my cases has rounds edges, so I won't be ab...

Nexus 80mm 'Real Silent' fan - what's up?
Just got a Nexus Real Silent 80mm fan, its the PWM series. OK first up I thought my mobo had multiple PWM header, but no, so I'm plugging this into a normal 3 pin header. Either way its really noisey!! Not at all like I expected. It produces a good loud hum, louder than my E7200 stock fan and the fa...

Just brought a Palit Geforce 9400GT graphics card. Single slot and passive. I've got a slim Silverstone LC04 case, where my soundcard will be sitting right next to it. Also it will be upside down to riser as well... I'll let you know how I get on in a few days. Got an 80mm Nexus case fan at same tim...

Tried shorting the green'n'black wires to see it it starts up in its own right and nothing. At least I know what it is now, just need to source a new PSU. Anyone know any...

No beeps nothing. The only indication of life is just one LED on the PCI riser board. No LED's come on, on the front of the case (Power or HD). Don't have any diagnostic tools. :( A friends is bringing me a spare PSU into work tomorrow. Will try that. There's just two Geil 1Gb DDR2 sticks in there, ...

System won't start anymore? PSU died?
Had a nice PC built and working for sometime, however today it started booting up, died, and now won't post. Nothing, no power LED on front of case, nothing. Its an Asus P5K-VM mobo, Intel 7200, 2GB ram WD Scorpio HD and M-Audio Audiophile 192 sound card. I'm powering it with a Seasonic SS-300TFX, w...

Current have an E7200 in an Asus P5K-VM mobo, 2Gb ram, with stock fan. PSU is a Seasonic 235W TFX. I'm just using the onboard Intel X3000 graphics card (not great) and have just a WD Scorpio 2.5" drive and M-Audio Audiophile 192 soundcard plugged in. I run Fedora 9. Whole lot tends to idle at about ...

On the off chance anyones interested, I measured the Athlon slot-a 750Mhz rig the other day. With two PATA 250Mb Seagate Barracuda drives and an old, old ATI Radeon, it peaked at 120W during drive spin up, then settled at around 92W for rest of boot up and idle. FWIW the machine runs no graphical in...

Wow, given the prices on those Koolance kits, it probably wouldn't be that much more expensive to wait a bit and buy the next revision of the PS3 (with the GPU die shrink). That one should produce a lot less heat. Depends on what you use your PS3 for. Yes, if its just games and blu-ray. no if you l...

Well measured the P4 2.4Ghz with the Intel mobo, no drives and just a super basic Savage4 AGP card. During post, it fluctuated between 70 and 105W, but settled at 80W once it hit hte 'no operating system found' message. So with a pair of mirrored drives we'll be talking around 100W ish I guess, whic...

I've got a little server in the attic doing router, firewall, file serving type duties. Currently has two Seagate ST3250623A-RK Barracuda drives mirrored. Got this one from Maplin, does the job, but the LCD display has gone really faint and flickery. Can only read it from certain angles. Might just pop down Aldi Sunday and check this one out.

Well got me bits together for new PC, just threw the cpu, mem and mobo together last night - no drives yet. I've read that raising a horizontal PS3 up slightly by placing it on some small blocks/feet can help things. Although vertical placement tends to be better in general due to the vents on the side being more effective when pointing upwards. Bear in mind though, there has been many iterations of the P...

Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 low profile - anyone tried it?
Well is it any good? Can't find any write ups on it. Scrapped the idea of upgrading my old 478 mobo, so I'm now looking for a low profile, super quiet socket 775 cooler for an E7200 cpu. Basically I'm weighing up one of these, a Scythe Shuriken or one of the low profile Zalman flowers (although thes...

Thanks for the offer of the Zalman, but I'm really more interested in a cooler that blows up. Reading the review of the LC04 on this site, the figures show a blow-up fan cooled things down a lot more, than a similar Zalman blowing down (and outwards). That Arctic-Cooling Super Silent, does that blow...
