@BF: I don't get your point. It's not acceptable for any so-called race to say something like the mentioned. As is relativism. (Maybe, as a German, I have a kind of special perspective on these topics. But maybe, from a humanistic point of view, it's quite OK to know that your nation isn't the best ...

Chimpanzees are also very very similar to humans  Let me just analyze your first sentence: By saying "also" you imply a similarity between black people and chimpanzees. By saying "..to humans" you imply that black people are no humans but... blacks, or somehow of a different kind. It's all re...

it is an American disease to think that it is a God-given right that one must pay a derisory amount for automotive fuel. I agree. But otherwise, not owning a car in the US really kicks you out of society. That is, in my opinion, just a symptom of under- or wrong-developed public transport and false...

About the "where to differenciate 90 and 10 percent"-thing: You always have to keep in mind that we are talking about complex systems here, which tend to be in an equilibrium state, which means that they are oscillating around a point of (mostly semi-)stability. But you don't know (you can only esti...

That was me with the @! halogen transformer... But I would suggest to tweak your rpm first, with some clever ducting you can archieve a lot here (at least that's what I read out of cmthomson's article). You can always buy a better fan, but your fans are already very good. Every fan can spin so slo...

Did you not notice his lack of facts? Of course I did. But I was trying to make himself notice it , by rational means, in a civilised way. See if this stubborness was a leadership trait... Still, I think that you just have to confront stubborn and quaky (btw, is this the right adjective here? We're...

Yeah. I know this problem. Right now, the transformer for the halogen light in the corridor maybe 6 meters away from my desk is louder than my computer. But what do I do? Replace fairly quiet HDDs by Samsung HD250HJ :D. I'm simply too lazy to get out the ladder and silence the transformer. Your comp...

I for myself thought that I was in the middle of a very lively discussion taking place. @aristide: I didn't take any bait. I tried to stick to the facts and keep up a nice discussion. My aim was to convince, not to put someone into a corner. To a certain extent, this may have worked. And: sheer quac...

To be honest, high-current DC power distribution in the backend would also increase power efficiency for high-density generation. I don't think that high and low density have to exclude each other. For example, solar heat power plants in Sahara would be high-density as well, maybe not in kWh/ha, but...

The generators at harbours are likely enough to provide power to the harbour, but not for the city behind the harbour. I go back to my statement about energy density. Where energy density lacks is the point where decentralisation comes into play. Just imagine: it would be possible to cover our ener...

Again, you are throwing carbon dioxide emissions and pollution into one pot and squirl. It is true that American vehicles were the first to have catalytic converters. But emission-wise, that's pure greenwashing. An SUV that consumes too much, is too heavy and has too much power won't get a lot bette...

No, it's not a stretch. The fluctuations which were measured in ice cores, sediments and other materials that caused past climate changes and the fluctuations that we cause are indeed on the same scale [/b]. Ask the next paleo-climatologist about that. All scientists I asked something so far were ve...

Please accept the fact that the gigatonnes emitted by nature in all of its means (which no one denies) are all part of a big circulation system with just little fluctuation. What we do is releasing additional emissions into atmosphere which have been buried for millions of years. The little fluctuat...

Please, Bluefront, you don't really believe that burning gigatonnes (please try to imagine how much that is) of fossil fuels doesn't cause anything? Sorry for being that harsh, but how can you be that ignorant? What was never mentioned here is that the climate system in some of its very important pa...

Everyone admits that we don't know exactly what we are causing. But what we know is that we are causing something very bad. We don't know all of it, but we know that it's happening. To all these "sceptics" out here: Why can't you just accept that being climate friendly doesn't mean that you loose al...

I'm guessing this is one of the new Focus eCOnetic models? That's neither particularily new nor especially eco-friendly. In fact, they replaced this engine by a 0.2 litre smaller one which consumes half a litre less last year :D You can buy lots of cars like this here nowadays - Volkswagen Golf hat...

Earlier in this thread I wrote that I'm satisfied with my NeoHE. Well, I'm no more. Last week it died after a year or so of flawless operation. I had some early warning signs before (had to push power button repeatedly, had to disconnet power and discharge PSU), but I didn't take them serious or bla...

What? Using half-trucks with 6 litre engines is using clean cars? They may be non-polluting, but please differentiate between 1. Pollution and 2. Climate change These two things have almost nothing to do with each other. The SOx emissions of your car, or particle emissions, or whatever besides CO2 a...

@Bluefront: About the 2% figure you posted: That's correct. But (with a very big B) it is referring to the total CO2 balance, meaning all carbon dioxide that's produced and used. So in fact, in total we are releasing 2% more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than is "used up". And this is tremendou...

Thanks for the advice, and sorry for the late reply. I had to choose the S12II, just because the shop where I wanted to buy the VX closed before me - although I called in ten minutes before and told them that I was going to come. S12II 430 or VX450?
Apparently, my NeoHE430, powering my sig system (E6420, Gigabyte 965P-DS3, 2GB DDR2, 8600GTS, usual drives) died. So now I need a replacement. I'm thinking of the models mentioned above. Cost difference here is about 10€ in favour of the VX. Which would you choose, and why?

These are great PSUs, and the service is awesome. Maybe they are not the quietest of all, but they are among the best. SPCR has tested them maybe half a year ago. I had one with a defective fan after four years or so. I asked them if they could sell me a new one, but the guy on the other end just as...
