Re: repair parts for old comp.
Good enough, i3 it is. I'm guessing my old cooler is not going to be usable? I see conflicting reports. One says a 775 cooler will go right on an 1150 board with a set of screws, another says the hole are not in the same places? What is the go to cooler for an i3 these days? I am not looking to over...

Re: repair parts for old comp.
hmm, a browser, plus a movie playing plus 2 different IM programs, plus hearthstone all at once is a pretty common use for this thing, so maybe a quad core would be a good idea?

Re: repair parts for old comp.
I see you have an I5 CPU. I know the stat differences in an I5 vs an I3, but what real world differences might I notice?

still debating options... How much would one of those old 775 boards cost (shipped to Iowa) otherwise I am considering http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130693 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117446 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1...

Re: repair parts for old comp.
I should have mentioned. I don't mind spending some money if it will get me a significantly better computer. A MB/CPU/RAM set for $500ish could be okay.

Re: repair parts for old comp.
Interesting thought. Have been playing Hearthstone on it a lot, would one of those have enough of a GPU for that? The old 8800GT card in it handles that well enough. I was thinking to just move it to a new MB.

repair parts for old comp.
I have an old computer here and about all it's used for these days is web browsing, playing games on Facebook, etc. the heaviest load it ever gets is some DVD ripping and video file compression, both of which I leave run overnight so don't care how fast it does it. Unfortunately it was on the floor ...

Quiet an old HP laptop
The fan is kicking up really loud when it does just about anything with graphics, even just watching a flash video. Obviously it needs taken apart and cleaned out. While I have it apart anyway, I am looking for any other low cost suggestions that could quiet it down more. A suggestion on a different...

replacement fan for HP G60T-600
Tried vacuuming it out, helped a bit, but still it's running way too hot/fast/loud every time I am watching a video file or webcast. Any recommendations?

Re: new system gaming/video editing w speech input on most
So far, so good with this system. The GPU gets a bit warm under load and the fan starts kicking up over 50% and becomes audible. I keep adjusting the settings and can keep it at 83C and 51% fan speed, but would like it just a bit quieter. For the GPU longevity I would rather not let it get above 85C...

Re: new system gaming/video editing w speech input on most
Well, so far so good. System is up and running nicely. Just one thing I do not know about now, DisplayPorts. The ASUS GTX660 TI-DC2T-2GD5 has a batch of connectors on it, one of them a displayport. It's working just fine running 2 28" monitors at 1920x1200 on the DVI ports and an HDTV projector at 1...

Macho Rev A install on an 1155 MB
The directions are not clear on whether or not to use the "755 backplate cap"? Is it only used in 755 mb installs, or all? The only post I have found on the subject give conflicting answers... thanks

Re: new system gaming/video editing w speech input on most
So mount the PS fan up so it is not part of cooling the system and only cools itself? This PS has a fan on one side that pulls air in to it and a vent at the back that lets air out, the other side is a solid metal plate. It can either mounted be fan down so it pulls air up through the system and out...

got most of the parts here now. Solo II case, Macho Rev A CPU cooler, Nexus Value 430 PS, Noiseblocker B12-1 case fan for the front. Just looking for suggestions on a few options. Mount the PS with the fan facing up out of the opening at the top of the case, or with the fan at the bottom pulling air...

Solo II, don't like the door on the sonata III
I'd heard that on the 7xxx series, I'd forgot, thanks. Which of the 660's is quietest?
I never hear the Nexus PS, so I will prob stick with it.
thanks

Re: new system gaming/video editing w speech input on most
This project was on hold for a bit, but I am getting back to it now. I am going to use a Sonata II case. I have been happy with the Nexus VALUE 430W in my current build, is there any much reason to go with something like Seasonic X-400 Fanless PSU instead? The audio will go via fiber optic to my rec...

Re: new system gaming/video editing w speech input on most
So, ASUS P8Z77-V LE vs. ASUS P8Z77-V LE Plus, any comments? I am leaning towards the plus. No difference I would use now, but if I did want to try crossfire someday... I see the list different audio chipsets, but don't know what the dif is. Would the GPU in a i5-3570K (the 4000 version of Intel's gr...

Re: new system gaming/video editing w speech input on most
Never looked at fractal design cases, will have to do so. Are the fans in them as quiet as a Noctua NF-S12B? Have used antec solo cases in the past. The suspended HD system has worked well, but had to replace antec's "tri-cool" fans, too noisy. In one older comp I had a case with a removable MB tray...

Re: new system gaming/video editing w speech input on most
I am planning a whole new system, no hardware is being kept from the old one. My only concern on the case is how quiet it can keep the system, there are no size constraints. From what I have been told so far here I am leaning towards ivy bridge at the start and worrying about 3d support and/or a 3rd...

Re: new system gaming/video editing w speech input on most
Not really given any thought to 3d gaming. I did just get a projection TV that will do 3d. Have it set up with a 120" screen. Not tried 3d on it yet. Speaking of, I would like an HDMI output in the system. Any reason I couldn't go with the integrated video for now and add a card later if I find the ...

new system gaming/video editing w speech input on most
This is a fairly wide open request. I am inclined to go w an Intel system, that's about it. I have all the monitors, keyboards, etc, am just building a new box, would like to stay near $1000 (a bit over is fine). Main uses are MMORPG and some video editing. I do use dragon naturally speaking a lot. ...

Artic Silver longevity?
I have a tube of Artic Silver from about 3.5 years ago. It's been kept between 60-75F & in a box, I built 3 comps with it back then, there is plenty left, is it still safe to use for a new comp now?

Building as quiet as practical 1080p capable HTPC and MMORPG gaming system. Can go as high as $2000, but don't want to just because I can. I am not looking to overclock. Questions at this point are Antec p183, Solo, or something else? Planning a Enermax UCTB12 T.B. SILENCE 120mm Case Fan. PS idea is...

warning: Samsung sends refurbs as warranty replacements
I am very displeased with Samsung. My 750 GB drive I paid $179 a couple years ago crashed and lost quite a few files. After much fuss I finally got a replacement. It was clicking with every read or write. They finally sent another replacement and it was a "refurbished" drive. They insisted that they...

Need a fast quiet 1TB drive
My Samsung drive died, though under warranty, samsung has refused to replace it except with a refurbished drive. I have no interest in keeping my data on a refurb. So, I need a replacement. If you look at my sig you will see this is a very quiet near fanless system. If fact the only thing I can hear...
