Re: Define S / PC-V33B / Bullet BH7 and Noctua vs Noiseblock
I also prefer Noctua. The e-loop is not an all purpose fan. When there is something in the airflow path closer than ~2cm in font of the fan they can develop a strange tonality and/or a humming sound. I use Noctua PWM fans wherever possible, controlled by Asus Fanexpert or the graphics card they are ...

Re: Got BRIX Pro, now need DIY help
Noctua also makes a 92mm PWM fan which is only 14mm deep . The original fan in the Brix pro is 15mm deep, in the GB-BXi7-4770R model . I doubt that fan was changed from your model, but you should double check. The 14mm Noctua fan wouldn't protrude from the case. When you use this fan, you could have...

Re: Quiet cooler for Socket 479?
How a bout a (used) Northbridge cooler? They were pretty common back when nvidia still made chipsets, I don't now if they're still available new. They should have the proper mounting hole distance, most used two push pins for installation. If I remember correctly I used a cooler like that in a S478 ...

Re: Help with first build - Ncase M1
The Noctua NH-C14 just barely fits. The Samuel 17 has a weaker performance than the other coolers mentioned. A top-down cooler makes sense in the ncase m1, the NH-L-12 is a very good fit.

Re: Help with first build - Ncase M1
- With the Accelero Extreme (or any after market GPU cooler), how does fan control typically work? I'm wondering if the fan speed scales up or down with GPU temperature like the stock coolers on some cards? I'm intrigued as the stock coolers on some cards turn the fans off at low GPU temps. If AE's...

Re: Help with first build - Ncase M1
1) If I was to use the Twin Turbo but not use the backplate to get more PSU room, then would it matter if I had a short card vs a regular length one (e.g. does the fact that its a smaller card mean componets are closer together and therefore heat up more / don't cool as well)? I'm thinking if the G...

Re: Help with first build - Ncase M1
Liquid cooling can be quiet, but a complete custom loop is expensive and AIO solutions can't beat a quiet air cooler. A smaller Noctua tower cooler like the NH-D9L or NH-U9S would be a good option. Using a tower cooler has the additional benefit that you can reach the connectors on the mainboard eas...

Re: New build PC boots at 68db - HELP!!
When I run Fan Xpert, it sees the CPU and Rear fans, an unknown fan (Fan Header 1A) but does not see the front fans in 2B. Are the fans spinning when the computer is running? Maybe you have to disconnect the low-noise cable for Fan Expert to detect and optimise the fan speed? Does it even make a di...

Have I made a bum steer and bought the wrong fans? YES. Those industrial fans don't belong in the home. I think the low limit on those NF-A14 Industrial PPC 3000 PWM fans is 800RPM on a 140 mm fan. That's a high RPM for my 140mm Noctua NF-P14s redux. It idles in the 400 RPM range. Get normal non-in...

Merovanq SFF attractive case (ideally silver not black) Attraction is an highly subjective matter. With reference to how little you can go with the dimensions, you might give a look to the SPCR's Lian Li PC-Q10 review. Second best (noise wise) but 1/3rd smaller is probably the Silverstone RVZ-02 al...

I buy the mainbaords with the most and newest connectors. DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 2.0, USB 3.1, M2 ad 8 SATA ports. I'm not going to use M.2 and USB3.1 right away, but I fully expect to use at least one during the system's lifetime. Spending money on a mainboard with more onboard connectors of the new...

The Modecom Alfa M2 is a little bit too big at (WxHxD): 176x380x300mm. But it uses thumbscrews for the side panels and has tall, HTPC-style aluminum case feet. Re: Mini-ITX for 900$?
I think the Lian Li Q21 is the smallest case with room for a dual slot full profile graphics card. You'd need a CPU cooler under 60 mm tall, like the Scythe Big Shuriken 2 and a SFX PSU like the SilverStone Strider Series 300W SFX12V, which is semi-passive. With these components and especially if yo...

Re: Unusual setup – case and placement recommendations
To answer both your questions we need to know how many hard drives and what size hard drive (3.5" or 2.5") you plan to use. Depending on the answer these drives could be the loudest component and their selection limits the selection of possible fitting cases. If you need more than one or two drives ...

OK - I was being a total dork. The plate that you secure the cooler too on the CPU side can be screwed in in two directions. I took the cooler off - turned the plate and now I have JUST enough clearance. I could either get a slimmer fan, move the fan to the top to a pull configuration (touching the...

So did you replace the fans with the 90mm noctuas and leave the cover or did you remove the cover? I'd love a picture if you still have it! Re: Questions about the ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme IV on a 980ti
Thanks for the advice on the 970 - I have the EVGA 780 and I might consider that method - will the EVGA card have enough power for 2 120 noctua's? I never had any problem with power or otherwise. The 92mm fans fit snuggly in the ACX cooler and the card used 2.5 slots. With 120mm fans you'll need 3 ...

Re: Questions about the ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme IV on a 980ti
There are two 980ti from PNY: Vanilla and XLR8 . The XLR8 is not so bad in terms of noise , though not as good as Asus or MSI. You could try if the Accelero fits with this VRM+RAM cooler on the XLR8 card. Alternatively you could use the XLR8 cooler with different fans. Remove the plastic shroud from...

I do like the idea of streaming games locally if it works well. And I actually don't really like the idea of buying 2 expensive GPUs (1 for the desktop and 1 for the HTPC). A fanless configuration with 5-6 HDD doesn't make much sense to me. Sound wise you're better of putting the HDDs in a separate NAS in a different room. When you want two M.2 SSD and 5-6 SATA HDD connected to a Z170 board, read the mainbaord manual very carefully, that is not posssible on all boards,...

The Asus Z-170 Deluxe has all the features and extras you want. You can use a second M.2 SSD with the included adapter that uses the PCIe 4x slot, farthest from the CPU. I bought it for the HDMI 2.0 port. The Samsung 950 runs really hot . If you have a workload that benefits from the extra bandwith ...
