Re: Fanless Moderate Game PC
Thanks for all the great insight guys! :D This forum rocks! I think I will refocus on a decent quiet machine and not a completely passive one. Using the case as a heatsink is interesting, but a bit more involved than I currently want. Maybe in another 6 years passive gaming PC's will be common. I wi...

Fanless Moderate Game PC
I haven't done a full build since '07 so many things have changed, and I'm trying to bring myself up to speed. Is it possible to make a fanless/passive PC with a bit of horsepower for games? Considering: Fanless PSU SSD Fanless GPU AMD 7750HD / R7 250 ? NVIDIA GT640? i3 / i5? Maybe i3-4130T? - Is th...

Hey thanks Jamie! A friend of mine recommended a Phenom II X3 so I am looking at that route. I've never had an AMD. I think you are right about the Ninja, I should just reuse it, but I'll keep the XIGMATEK in mind. Thanks for the heads up about the different mounting bracket. Those pins were a might...

Forced system upgrade -- Help, I'm so out of it
So my BIOSTAR TForce965PT finally went kaput. (That board had been nothing but problems.) And so I guess its time to upgrade. But I am really out of it, both in new tech and silent stuff. People here seem to know their stuff. I'd like to get a new MB, CPU and I guess RAM too. I just bought a new EVG...

Sorry to dig up and old thread, but here are the latest developments: I took the board + PSU out of the case, and systematically tested everything by disconnecting it and seeing if the problem would go away. I deemed the problem to be the PSU. I took the PSU out of my roomate's computer and it boote...

Yeah I've read HDs can click before they die. This drive is new, and the clicking only happens under the circumstances I described, but I suppose I can't rule out a faulty drive. Thanks for the suggestions. I am out of state for the holidays, but I will try them in a week or so when I get back. Happ...

Hmm nice idea. I tried setting the RAM voltage to 2.2V and shutting computer off for a couple hours. Turned it back on, it went 'half-on' then to clicky-clicky. :( I got idea for that RAM from http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2871&p=4 and saw it had decent potential, but I must have glazed...

Thanks for the input guys! I was getting some errors in Memtest on test 5 and 9. I read that these were usally problems with timings and not bad memory. I shut off the automagic timings and set it to 4-4-4-12 and then memtest would repeatedly run clean. (Also removed some fatal errors I would get in...

Board Case or CPU Problem? New Build Please Help
I don't know if this is the right place for this, but I figure people here will have experience with these parts, since I bought most of them with recommendations from here. I just build my first new computer in many years. Here is the build: PSU : SeaSonic S12-380 ATX12V 380W Power Supply - Retail ...
