Re: Quiet UPS ?
Guess they're not concerned about the sound side of things at Eaton - or customer service at whatever office you contacted. I've still got the Protection Station 800, and it has been solid through and through. Not a peep out of it and does its job well. No PSU trouble, as it has served 3 power supp...

Re: Quiet UPS ?
I'm on the hunt for a silent UPS. Any recommendations? This thread is old, so I'm re-emphasizing the question. To not just be a boring thread bump, I'll supply an example of Eatons epic customer service: My email: Hello Eaton! I'm looking to buy one or two UPS's for my setup, that consists of a work...

Re: Replace the cooling fans on my GTX 570
Do you think 120mm fans would be better for my scenario as well?
Are you keeping the original heatsink?
Also what fan controller are you going to use?

Re: Replace the cooling fans on my GTX 570
After reassembling the card I experience it to be less annoying than before, but only to a very small degree. Say, 3% less annoying. So, the new plan is: - Wait for "regular PWM-fan connector > GPU PWM fan connector" cables to arrive - Wait for 2 Arctic Cooling F9 fans to arrive (just ordered) - Whe...

Re: Replace the cooling fans on my GTX 570
Tried to return the card - no go at my supplier due to opened package. Modding is the only option now. Faustus is right about the screws. I've dismantled the whole card basically, in this manner: 1. Remove the whole cooler by unscrewing the four screws around the GPU core. You have to wiggle it care...

Re: Replace the cooling fans on my GTX 570
30, that's very low compared to my temps, do you have good airflow in your case?
Due to my temps my 'auto' mode runs around 20%. Sounds like a motorcycle somewhere nearby.

Re: Replace the cooling fans on my GTX 570
Thanks for the links.
Well the current heatsink is quite beefy, and I'm getting 46 degrees celcius idle with 10% fan speed, ~68 degrees during gaming and almost 20% fan speed. So it seems to be doing quite a good job considering my case is pretty low in airflow.

So next we gotta find some way to connect 'good' fans to those types of connectors, right?

Re: Replace the cooling fans on my GTX 570
Rotten, check here: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/asus_gtx570_directcu2/2.htm It seems it's quite doable to remove the cooler. I'm more skeptical when it comes to the fans, not sure what to do about them. Since this beast of a card takes up 3 slots, it makes me wonder if it would work the ...

Re: Replace the cooling fans on my GTX 570
This sounds exactly like what I think I need to do. I just bought an ASUS GTX 570 DirectCU II card, and the fans are horrible, even when it's idling. I figure I'm going to try to replace them with two 120 mm Noctua fans, but I need to know if the plastic "shielding" is removable on this card, but I...

Custom fan curves a la Puget?
How does Puget write their own speed curves for the fans in their systems?
They use the Asus P7P55D-E Pro motherboard, which doesn't appear to have any special settings other than Q-Fan Control which I assume doesn't give such precise control.

Need to find a small case that can hold 2 3.5" drives
I'm about to build a small FreeNAS box to run automatic backups on the households computers and perhaps act as bittorrent downloader and whatnot. In any case, I've decided on all parts (not that many to pick out) EXCEPT for the case. The mobo will the Intel D945GSEJT, paired with a gig of ram and ru...

Not that loud, I can only hear it within 25 cm, if I aim my left ear straight at it (my right ear hears high freqs slightly lower). Since the mouse is always on the right side of my keyboard, it's not a problem. I actually put it on the left side to try it out, and it was actually quite annoying

http://www.karlmacklin.com/diverse/mousewhine.mp3 A few seconds of ambience, then a few seconds where I hold my mouse to the microphone (audio-technica AT3035). Yes, my mouse, a logitech mx510 has built in coil buzz/whining. I was stretching out after a few hours in front of the computer, and found...

That sounds kind of scary! Definately enough to keep me from buying BeQuiet! Corsair is kind of scary for me to buy as well. I have a HX620. I bought it, had a high pitched coil buzz, returned it 3 (!!) times, same problem with all of them. This was when the PSU was kind of new, some years ago. I re...

https://www.inet.se/datorkomponenter/naetaggregat/naetaggregat/ I'm building a computer for a friend, for audio recording/editing use. GPU will be very low power (passively cooled), Intel Q9550 with Thermalright Ultra True (black), two nexus 120mm fans in a Antec SOLO case. I was hoping to find a N...

WD1500BLFS = quiet? Would it benefit from a SQD 2.5"?
I never understood the velociraptor ordeal; the ones that come as 2.5" drives with no ICE-pack, are they as quiet as the ones you remove the pack from yourself? Here's one I'm thinking about buying: http://www.misco.se/product/product.aspx?P_ItemId=632263&StartIndex=2&SL_SectionID=39837 Is it really...

Thanks for the advice Mike. I was actually just reading the old thread about draining PSU's from power, and all the shocking people has suffered. Corsair HX620W driving me insane, what should I do?
So a few years back I bought the Corsair HX620W PSU. The one I have now is my third cause I exchanged the two first due to coil buzzing. This one still does it from time to time, but I figured all of them eventually do, and I didn't want to send it back another time just to get a fourth bad one. In ...

Please read my review - http://www.silentpcreview.com/WD_Velociraptor no pics - nothing special, just a block of foam fitted in the middle elastic, slightly bigger than a standard 3.5" HDD. MikeC When you talk about the suspensioning of your harddrives, I take it you mean the elastic suspension (which I've counted to three in my case as well), and not the drive "cages"? How do you think it would turn out if you left the ICE packs on there? Would you get more noise? Worse cooling? I can...

Antec SLK3000-B, a quiet mid-range workstation for my mom
My mom needed a better computer. She currently has an old 1.8 ghz p4 (iirc) with 512 mb ram that takes about 4 minutes to start. 2 minutes to get into windows xp, 2 more minutes for it to be "ready". She has to use photoshop and other adobe products which are hellishly sluggish in current setup. I h...
