I'm going to be putting a couple of hard drive silencers (either 2 Xilencers or 2 Smart Drives) in that area and filling the rest of the empty space with some egg carton foam.davidstone28 wrote:Why are you drilling out the cages?

Anyone drilled out the hard drive cages from the PC-V2000?
Just wondering if anyone had the guts to drill out all of the bottom hard drive cages in their Lian Li PC-V2000 case? If so any issues that you've noticed? Any problems at all? I'm pretty well much ready and planned out a new rig and just wanted to see if there could be any stability problems if I t...

What would really be nice is a hard drive silencing enclosure round up. Find the most popular enclosures (such as the ones mentioned above) made to silence hard drives and use a reference drive to test just how well the enclosures can "silence" the drive as well as keeping it at a stable operating t...

Are there any stores near you that caries them? In that case I would go look at them and buy the heaviest of the two. High mass is a great way to silence something. Other than that, I was thinking about buying a Xilencer earlier, so I looked around the net for reviews. Couldn't find any. In the end...

Xilencer HDD Silencer-Cooler or Smart Drive 2002C Enclosure
I'm looking to buy one of these enclosures for my Raptor 74GB but not sure which one is better. Anyone have any experience with the Xilencer from AC Ryan? They seem quite similar cept from what I have read, the the back of the Xilencer is not pre-cut and you use a pen knife to custom cut it to fit y...

I dont have any grounding in positive\negative case pressure, so hopefully someone will correct this - but I think that having a 7v intake and 12v output causes a pressurisation in the case, which makes dodgy things happen (there's some technical info for you! :)) Also having the rad at the back of...

i would say dont passively cool the gpu the affect that watercooling it will have on the loop is minimal. do you have enough components in yur system so that the power supply is under high load and that is causing it to overheat from the load and from case heat. with the new case you will most liky...

Do the Hitachi's still have their meowing problem? For quiet, I would get a Samsung drive in a heartbeat. In fact, the Samsung notebook drive looks VERY tempting to me I know there is a post on this forum linking to a firmware to fix the Hitachi's "meowing" problem. I do own a couple 80GB Hitachi 7...

exactly how hot is the case getting. what are you cpu idle load temps. just curious If I were to put my hand on top of my case it is warm enough that my PSU fan (Enermax EG465P-VE) spins up full speed. From MBM it's saying 39C. But those readings can be completely off as all the readings on my comp...

well if you passivly cool the the video card it will most likely make the case temps go up even more. so i would recommend to just keep it water cooled and maybe just add a 120mm blow hole t the top of your case. i have heard people who get a 5c temp drop after adding a 120 mm blow hole. what kind ...

Should I watercool both my CPU and video card?
Currently I'm running a water cooling setup that's cooling both my CPU and video card. It does get generally hot if the side panel is closed and ususally the PSU fan speeds up. So I'm wondering if I should cool my Radeon 9600XT with the Zalman ZM80D-HP cooler or if I would be better off just having ...

Re: Suspending hard drive w/ Stretch Magic (picture)
I have tried hard drive suspension for the very first time. I couldn't believe how much better it works over grommets! I found a very nice suspension material at Michaels. It is called Stretch Magic. I got the thickest they had, 1.8mm in a 3 meter roll for $2.49. It is a "high tech polymer that wil...

Keep the Swiftech, it offers much better flow than a Ehiem, just takes a bit more work to quiet it down. www.mcmasters.com In the polyurathane section buy some 3/8" or 1/2" thinck Sorbothane and mount the pump on that. I've seen several posts here saying that is better than foam for deadening vibra...

Yeah, it's not gonna be solved via suspension. If I hold it with my hand it doesn't get any quieter at all. Slimeball, I'd say that the Smart Drive is pretty nice, for cooling and slight dampening of vibration, anyway. Remember my Raptor is one of the loudest drives you can buy, and it'd be great i...

Does suspending an HD reduce the whine? I don't think so. I have a WD1200JB inside a Smart Drive 2002c and I can still hear it whine. I placed the Smart Drive at the bottom of the case on top of foam and I could still hear it. Looks like the only solution to this is to buy a quieter HD. So it...

I've heard that if you mount the MCP600 with the inlet pointing up minimizes bearing noises. If you're not suspending it yet that would also be a good thing to do. So I should basically do both? Mount the pump so the inlet points upwards where the outlet should be pointing sideways. Suspend the pump.

Although I still want to compare the fans at equal rpms and measure the noise from there.

CFM:Noise ratio would be almost identical to eachother then I'...
