Lenovo Ideacenter Stick 300 ... my impression
I ordered this from Lenovo and it arrived this week. http://shop.lenovo.com/ca/en/desktops/ideacentre/stick-300/#galleryPhoto Used RCA 28" 720P TV I purchased last year as monitor and a Logitech K400 wireless keyboard. System feels very good for browsing, very responsive. So far here is what I have ...

A lot of effort for a damned loud cooler, the Aero is one of the loudest coolers I have ever used, and I would never use it even on its lowest settings, I believe I flung the heatsink, and kept the fan, incase I needed some serious throughput in an 80mm area at some point. Andy I agree on the loudn...

Recycle your old socket 478 coolers
Many of us have extra parts which are gathering dust. This may be an interesting solution to reuse an old socket 478 heat sink and fan. Hear are some socket 478 coolers from my junk drawer a OCZ, CoolerMaster Aero and a standard Intel. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff183/yamawho/10100007.jpg I ...

So in order to move from the Trial Copy to the OEM, I have to copy all of my shared folders to another machine, abandon my backups, reinstall the OS, then copy the shared folders back over - as opposed to simply entering the registration key. How idiotic can it get? That does sound ridiculous. I'm ...

I don't see "the two other 1200mm fans" you mention, though. Perhaps they're external ? 1200 mm was a typo  There are three 120 mm fans that come with this case. One on top, 2nd at the rear and the 3rd mounted in the bottom chamber about two inches before the power supply. All fans hav...

Multiple systems in one P180 case
Having an itch you can't scratch is like wanting to build a system without having a need for yet another one. I have been considering getting an Antec P180 or 900 for a while now. I decided on the P180 with the plan to build 3 systems in the same case. I removed the top drive cage which is to hold 2...

Is there a linux distro running XFCE that can support the networking on this mobo out of the box ? I tried the new Mint 5 XFCE live cd on this system and I am able to access the network however, I tried to play an MP3 and Thudar seems to freeze up. To rephrase the question ... does any distro suppor...

I ended up going for one of each of the following; The Asus P5Q Pro: Installed in main gaming rig with a HD 4870 and running Vista 64bit. Always nice to have that extra PCIe slot in case I get the urge. The Asus P5K SE: After realizing that the P5Q series does not support 800 FSB, I installed my e43...

FS: Asus Eee PC 4G Surf Notebook
Great little notebook! I purchased it for my trip to Australia in April. Love this little thing to death but since I have returned I'm not using it much. I upgraded the ram from 512MB to 1GB. The original Xandros OS is on the 4GB SSD (internal hdd). I did install XP Pro on it and it ran great then I...

P43 vs P45 chipset
I was going to get a ASUS P5Q which has the P45 chipset. http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10530BD9855&vpn=P5Q&manufacture=ASUS I noticed yesterday that the ASUS P5QL-E has become available. http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10530BD9089 The main difference seems to be that the P43 on...

Hmm. I'm having a very difficult time telling the difference between the P5Q variants as well. In terms of Deluxe vs. Pro, Deluxe has 16-phase power design whereas Pro has 8 (but I really don't quite know what this means). It also has many more i/o ports. I can't for the life of me figure out where...

HDMI sound not working
I have an Asus P5N-EM HDMI mobo which is plugged to my Samsung HDTV with an HDMI cable. So far the picture from the PC is great but I can't get the sound going. I recently found HDMI audio in the bios and turned it on but still no sound.
Any ideas ?

I suppose a PCI riser card could be used like on SFF Compaq's and the like. Don't know about your bandwidth question but I assume that if you used just the gigabit nic, you would be alright. Maybe you should consider using a matx mobo with 4 sata ports instead with a celeron 420 cpu. The Asus P5N-EM...

I installed a 420 recently and used the stock heat sink from another intel cpu. The one supplied with the 4xx series is a joke. To get quiet operation I used the bigger heat sink with the copper core and transferred the fan from the 4xx series heat sink. This fan is much quieter. BTW, I used a Asus ...

When I use the standard HSF I leave it stock.
However, if I upgrade it I'll use a zalman fan mate the lower the speed.
I installed a Zalman 7700Cu on a Celeron 420 recently and I lowered the speed from 3200 RPM down to 1200. Big difference in the noise and the cpu temp is lower than it was at stock.

wired, there is a review of the atom on a gigabyte mobo at Tom's where they discuss this. I posted it in another thread. Bathman, the reason you may have trouble finding what you are looking for is that Intel controls what manufacturers can put on these boards. The spec on these is such that they ca...
