Re: Quiet, Clean, and Green Tower Build
Hello Seb, and thank you kindly for your reply. I did in fact try that method. Speedfan would run, as evidenced in the task list and by the fans slowing down, but would not appear in the system tray, nor would the UI window appear in any capacity, hence my comment. If you have any idea what might ca...

Re: HD-PLex H5 Gen2 Silent Fanless PC Build
*Slow clap*. Very nice build. I feel for the "DOA or near it motherboard" troubles you had. Seems like I have one nearly every build. It's nice that the fins are on the sides so you can still use it in the stack like you are. I imagine you are using the optical out to the big unit you have underneat...

Re: HTPCs dying inexplicably
Are your machines behind some kind of UPS? If not, that might be part of your problem right there. If you are getting spikes down your power line, that over-voltage and under-voltage can damage electronics. A surge protector strip is generally useless (at least you should consider it as such). A UPS...

Quiet, Clean, and Green Tower Build
My 6 year-old machine was in for a replacement. When building a new machine, I had a few requirements: I wanted it to be quiet as feasible (more on this later) and efficient, as my old machine was quite power-hungry. I also wanted it to look nice and clean. I came up with a pretty good parts list: S...

Since it is likely that you will never understand unless this curse is inflicted on you as well. I will clarify using this statement from wikipedia, specifically the Sensory Integration Dysfunction page, linked from the Autism page. "Hypersensitivity is also known as sensory defensiveness. Examples ...

For some reason, music is different. I still don't use half the volume most people do. I think it may have something to do with A) I can control it. For some odd reason it's a little like tickling. It doesn't get the desired effect if you can control it yourself. B) it's an 'Expected" noise, if you ...

A Picture of the interior of the machine. http://www.rhynri.com/rig.JPG While taking this, I reached in and stopped one of the 7950gx's fans, and there was no observable change in the sound from the unit. It is, however, much louder with the side off. Taking some sample sounds with the camera, it be...

SilentPC's own tests has the Scythes are rated ~20 dBA@1m at 800rpm. That is quiet. The 7950 doesn't have "a fan" - it has two, they are small, and the noise they make is less than that of the of the PSU, which is very quiet. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth a million. http:/...

A Quiet UltraPowerful PC
I wish other users to be able to obtain the same results I have. A note : I have a diagnosed ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and have Hypersensitivity. If I say something is really quiet, to the average person it's inaudible. Loud for me is things like the click noise a door makes when it shuts and t...
