just look at the cooler. A theory at a Russian language forum behind a site that produces part of xbitlabs.com transalted content (so, respectable :)) is that AMD is overcompensating the inadequate 4850 cooler, possibly due to vendors complaining. That's why I don't know what to expect. OK. I don't...

The 4770... The picture shows a dual slot cooler with at least one heatpipe... I don't know what to expect of the power consumption under load, but I'm pretty sure the idle consumption will drop significantly. They list GFLOPs and GFLOPs/W, so it's 80 W. No gains from 40nm, as predicted. Wonder how...

This Ninja fan is a Scythe Slipstream 1000 rpm variant. S-Flex E rotates, as you said, at 1200 rpm. People may argue about which fan type is better, but sure 1200 vs 1000 can be heard. You can go for a specific "default" speed (like Scythe 500, 800, 1200, Noctua various adapters), but many people wo...

830/870 rpm at 400/500 W look nice, though AFAIR not best and I wonder if it's at room temperature. They will also launch a case called Fenris Wolf: http://www.scythe.co.jp/case/fenris-wolf.html It's aluminium, looks rather nice, reduces HDD vibration and comes with 2 800rpm fans that look like they...

Re: GTX260 System Opinions
PSU: BFG 800W Too high wattage, don't know about the brand. Why not any of the SPCR recommended ones that are quiet at about 300W? Motherboad: nForce 750i SLI Pointless IMO. Something on the P35/P45 chipset will do. CPU: Core2Duo E8500 RAM: 4x2GB DDR2 GPU: nVidia GTX260 Good. HD: WD Raptor 150GB If...

Some additional info about RV740. Looks like it is much hungry for energy than 4670. Compare it to 4830 instead :). Same processing power, low heat/power because of the 55 > 40 nm shrink, same memory bandwidth with a cheaper 128-bit PCB. Another "low-end revolution" (and for me a realization that t...

End of story (apparently). Took it to some repair shop, they say it's the CPU that overheated because of bad contact and they remounted everything (my brother's taking the computer back as I write)... Edit: NOT . They made the source of the problem up and loaded the CPU all night. Now they promise t...

SSD = more silence and less watts? Micron: "No way!&
Micron has a prototype SSD. 800 MB/s read, 540 MB/s write. PCI-e 4x to manage such speed. And the answers to SPCR questions... It uses an extra power connector, so more than 75 W. And it has two whiny fans. Of course it's not for mainstream users, but hopefully mainstream SSDs won't go like CPUs wen...

Forgot to add: Counter-Strike 1 runs fine, so low-power usage of the GPU is OK. The CPU obviously can go on with 100% load. If an computer crashes really badly because something is broken, the bios gets corrupted to. That's what I was curious about, I'v never heard of such a thing before. I would lo...

Help: BIOS errors and 3D freezes
I have a kinda strange problem. One day my PC crashed in a game, after that when I enter a game or ATITool 3D view it goes for several seconds, then hangs with artifacts (game) and lags before it with slow mouse movement and a black field instead of 3D (ATITool). The sound stutters. After rebooting ...

The GPUs' Thermal Design Power is from 105 W (8800 GT, probably less for 8800 GS) to 185 W (8800 Ultra). NVidia apparently recommends a 450 W power supply for a GeForce 8800 GTX. The blog says that "this core had code optimizations that drove the GPU so hard that it would draw a lot more electricity...

Core i7 that have been released now are "high-end" varinats like the Athlon FX. 6-12 months from now (AFAIK) Intel will release mainstream quad- and dualcores based on the same architecture which will be interesting, as well as the 32 nm shrink. WE should also remember that + 5-10% numbers over Core...

You need new heatsinks for your CPU and graphics card, as well as better and slower case fans. Check out the SPCR recommended lists and shops in your country. For example, the setup in my signature :) with Thermalright HR-01 Plus instead of Scythe Ninja would be good. Since you need much hard drive ...

1. Some sites list them, can't tell you exactly because I read Russian hardware sites :). At about 3 GHz it shouldn't be more than 60 W though. 2. AFAIK, it's rather complicated but as a rule of thumb it's a square relationship. So over/undervolting has a much greater impact than over/underclocking....

1) Why AMD? :) 2) I assume that the CPU fan will be temperature controlled, but what about case fans? Stock ones aren't the best, and even if they were, their "low" speed is too high. 3) The Radeon 4850 will get loud under load. I wonder if 9800GTX or GTX+ are quiet enough under load. Maybe you can ...
