I didn't bother with the plastic spacers at all. It doesn't look anyhow wrong without them.. but then again my temperatures are quite high, so I cannot advertise my way just yet. How to get the ramsinks to stick on first try (or this is what I did): 1. Use ArctiClean to do magic to the surfaces, aft...

ATT offers me [0,892-0,930-0,968-1,006-1,044-1,082-1,120-1,158]. (so in 0,038V steps) If I load my BIOS with RBE, some clock info spots have a visible voltage setting of 1.046. ATI could set this range to restrict overclocking, perhaps. I would imagine they don't care so much about potential custom ...

That works, thanks. So I have a 4850 512mb GDDR3. BIOS is 011.004.000.000.029193 (113-B50102-105) Lowest possible memory clock is 500MHz for me. Lower than that kills the video signal fast, when running ATT artifact tester. 472MHz is the lowest memory clock that doesn't show visual errors (471MHz do...

Yes this ATT beta is the only utility that has allowed me to change clockspeeds. But I cannot underclock core at all because 500 is the lowest value, and I can only underclock memory by 10mhz at once because the lowest value is current-10mhz.. and then I have to reopen the window to underclock more....

I'm not familiar with how AGCT may or may not function with the HD4850. I do get "SetClock failed!" errors every now and then. Most of the time I can just close the AGCT program, the open it again and it works fine. Try using the AGCT shortcut method of changing GPU/MEM clocks, listed in my post, a...

My 550VX makes noise so I want to remove the fan..
Noise sources: 2x Scythe s-flex 1200 @ 800rpm, samsung T166 320gb, 550VX fan. In this system the PSU is the clear source of noise. Fans start to make noise when over 800rpm. HDD is tame. I have no case. PSU is on the table, slightly separated from the other system. I estimate that I am able to open ...

Thank you for all this information, nafets. I wonder how much different a 4850 with GDDR3 is regarding all this tweaking.. ..I'll check that AGCT & gpu-z 0.2.7 EDIT: I get the message "SetClock failed! Please check device configuration." from AGCT if I try to Set Clocks.. how can I change the clocks...

Are my 4850+S1 temps OK?
I installed the S1 rev 2 using the pre-applied TIM. I didn't use the plastic clips, because I didn't like turning the heatsink when half of the TIM didn't make proper contact. I put ramsinks on the ram chips and the voltage area chips. I think one of the ramsinks contacts the S1 fins (barely), but n...

Dust and electric charge
Hoi I read somewhere that electronic devices (like monitors, PC components) attract dust because of something that I'm too uneducated to understand, but that it is related to electrons and stuff, I guess. So I was thinking a strange thought like this: If you have 2 filters that are made from a mater...

Sounds bad. Will the expansion cards really have problems behaving, if only connected to the PCI/PCI-E slots, and not supported by the case at the rear? Depends on whether you plan to attach heavy things to your cards ;). Well, some popular aftermarket cooler probably, as I don't have much trust fo...

Personally I would put a bit more effort into it I'm not exactly a craftsman, quite the opposite, so I'll try to keep it relatively simple. :) you may want to use the buffer space this creates to create longer noise-blocking air pathways. Perhaps a 90 degree curve in each pathway? I'd imagine a com...

To be exact, I have duplos, not legos. First I thought of using them for the case, but soon realised that I probably wouldn't have enough of them. I suspect they wouldn't feel any more customizable than cardboard+tape. (I can't cut legos like I can cut cardboard, for example) I would also wonder abo...

never mind the fact that the case will be a massive fire hazard and provide zero EMI shielding. Hmm, which internal components could ignite the cardboard? None in normal operation, but otherwise? PSU area? I could put some legos there. I'm not planning to burn my house, so there should be no extern...

How are you going to mount the optical drive, switches, LEDs, and so forth? And will you have to take this thing apart every time you change a cable connection to the mobo? Store-bought cases solve a lot of these problems for you. And you're also going to want to attach stuff so it won't slide arou...

Nevbie + strange questions
Hi all, been reading this site for some months. I have never built a PC myself yet. Now I'm going to, just looking for all possible information from the net & waiting for new GPU architecture from Nvidia & waiting for penryn also. Never liked the idea of cases that much though, they seem to be obsta...
