For anyone who would like a more in-depth (or whatever) view on the white man vs. indian theme, I recommend reading this piece of writing by C.G. Jung:

I guess you're right... building such a setup would be little more than an exercise in futility.. after the novelty is spent, it would hold little glamor. I do not know if the speeds of the F1 make a real difference in user experience though. They are 50% higher than those of the WD GP. But does it ...

Does anyone know how the power consumption of such boards are really built up? According to that Tom's hardware article , the 780G northbridge only uses about 1W. If your processor idles at say 5W, and your harddisk idles at 3W, and your RAM uses 2W (I'm just guessing), then how come such systems st...

would like feedback on 5400rpm raid setup
Wanting to build a new system someday soon, there were really only two options on my shopping list for the case, either a P180 or the Lian Li pc-101a/b. I think the Lian Li looks better, but seems to be more difficult to silence. The P180 looks great too, though, but it is so huge. I will be filling...

I am not saying that all indigenous cultures are or were Giver cultures. The ones you are talking about may very well have turned into Taker culture themselves, due to the influence and interference of white men. Being indigenous or not is not the key point. At the same time, it is true that for ins...

Hm, yes. GNP as a metric has only been in use since around 1940. It was in the 50's, if I am correct, that consumption as a major goal was formulated, along with the design principles of planned obsolesence and the like. But I think the present is intricately linked to the past. It is only technolog...

Distribution of energy consumption; technology vs. culture
Someone recently invented/imagined a floor light that worked by lifting a weight up to the top, and then by way of gravity, the weight would spin a rotor that would generate electricity enough to light a LED based lamp. Unfortunately, it is said that the weight needed for such a thing would be immen...

I'm hoping that companies like Antec will also someday start thinking about recyclability. It is never mentioned in articles on SPCR. You'd think that the material the Antec P180 is composed of, would be very hard to recycle, being triple layer and such. If there is any market segment that would car...

Whatever the power consumption, it is by a long distance inadequate to heat my home :P. A single electrical radiator uses about 2500W. So that must mean that my gas usage in these months is at least 3000W for many hours a day. Whether my computer adds 16W or 30W (ex monitor), is not of *that* great ...

Yes I'm very intersted too. Platform has a heavy sound to it. If it refers to the hybrid crossfire platform, then it will most likely need a revision of the 780g and the 3450, and otherwise the next gen chipset will be the first to carry it. I'm guessing that if a revision happens, it will be introd...

The safest way for the rest of the data is to store it online, literally. Redundancy of the thousands is the answer. You mean to store it 'in' p2p networks? But it would take months to find and (re)download all that audio, video and other binaries I had lost.. but the good part is you would start f...

It's too bad the WD GP drives are so expensive. The 750GB GP costs 30% more than the Samsung F1 of same capacity. That for a drive whose cost in R&D was probably very modest, as originating from existing models. I think I'll just try to use one of those SATA to IDE converters for my current mobo ins...

Not impossible, but are you sure it wasn't interfering with some other spinning part, like a cooling fan? I don't know really, but I doubt it. There were 3 slow-spinning 80mm fans, plus a 5400 notebook drive that was resting on foam. I know I would be better off having a recent mobo, but I just don...

Hmm I got a good idea. I am using an external enclosure mainly because my attempt at using a SATA controller failed miserably. But having an external HDD means increased noise. But, there is also the Scythe Kama Connect 2. It is intended to be used outside of the computer, to connect SATA and IDE de...

Well, I ordered them (F1 750GB). I will just have to see what the noise is going to be. I had conceived of it as a temporary solution until I get myself a SATA system, because I didn't want to buy an IDE harddisk and then be stuck with multiple IDE devices after I upgrade my system. But I'm beginnin...

I plan on housing a new harddisk inside an external 3.5" enclosure. There is obviously no possibility to suspend the harddisk inside the enclosure, although the enclosure will rest on an absorbing surface (carpet). I'm not sure whether the high vibration of the Samsung T166 series, and likewise, any...

Like Frank2003 said, comparing Asus to Gigabyte may not be representative of the difference in chipsets. Tom's hardware tested the Gigabyte 780G to be a few Watt less than the Gigabyte 690G. If the Giga 780G is as much a power hog as their 690G is, [that might be the reason the Giga 780G > Asus 690G...
