Add to that: http://www.tomshardware.com/2008/03/04/amd_780g_chipset/ Right now, the only 780g board available in stores (in NL) is the Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H but I hope that will soon change. According to Tom's, it consumes a few Watt less than the Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H, but that one was high in p...

I don't have much experience with digital myself, as most of the stores naturally try to give you the best image possible. There was one instance, however, in which there was also an old low quality source which looked like it might have been VHS, and this video looked absolutely horrible on that la...

The reason the OP doesn't think HD is worth it, is because he watches way too many YouTube videos and his ipod is probably his only flatscreen. Wrong again. I don't have an ipod and my only flatscreen is the 19"WS I'm now looking at, on which is it very nice watching dvds, thank you very much. + Pe...

While a fuel cell itself is currently much more efficient than an internal combustion engine (ICE), it still falls well short of current battery technology. Fuel cells are about half as efficient as using a plain old lead-acid battery. Right. A tank-to-wheel efficiency of 45% is still not very much...

How come a fuel cell functions as an inefficient battery? You need to produce the electricity, then you need to electrolyse water to get the hydrogen, then feed it through a fuel cell and drive an electric motor. I thought the fuel cell itself was highly efficient, and an electric motor is also more...

Bluray. In the US downloading pirated content is frowned upon, and isn't a great argument for not getting Bluray. Pirated content is frowned upon everywhere, but that doesn't mean I hold the same opinion. Pirating is not the argument for not getting Bluray, it is the escape route. The argument is n...

You are assuming mankind is bound to Earth. Consider it has been barely 50 years since the first artificial satellite was put in the orbit. I don't own a TV. I don't own a TV either. True, but counting on the scientific/technological means of colonizing other planets is hardly a foolproof way of re...

Yes well.. if NTSC is so bad then I can imagine, but really, I never ever heard anyone in my vicinity ever mention that we needed something better than DVD. VHS was another story, the limitations of VHS were very perceptible. So basically, for us Europeans, getting better quality video just wasn't a...

Nice feedback. Yeah I knew I'm not the only one, but spending time researching upgrade options make me feel like I am. There is some truth in what you (Moogles et. al) are saying. I am cheap in that I don't allow myself the things I would like to have, and perhaps that is where my bitterness comes f...

Am I the only one who thinks HD video is something the world doesn't need? I myself have been watching low-quality anime encodes for years, and I must say I have been stunned now and then to see the real (DVD) thing. I think DVD has great quality. I know that some (many?) people use their DVD/harddi...

mine is still having that crazy video crash intermittently, even with latest drivers and bios. it it wasn't for the fact that i'd have to re-install my os, i'd return this motherboard. i'm gonna wait till i can get a displayport compatible card and just slap it in there. I would agree with the person you quote that this is crap science, but bear in mind that 1) this experiment's only purpose was to see if it is worth the time to do further research 2) I very much doubt this crappiness is the result of malicious intent, but rather caused by bad training combined with...

Plus of course the questions of interference and possible health effects of their extra RF. Exactly. Electronic/wireless devices can already cause or add to e.g. autism in young children, (see naturalnews.com), and these ppl want to add even more high-power air radiation to the home. Insanity. 5400 vs 7200
Hey there, I recently purchased one 7200 3.5" Samsung drive, and one 5400 2.5" Hitachi drive and I'm wondering whether it is worth the trouble to replace the 5400 with another 7200, performance wise. I haven't done any real tests, but in terms of buffered read speed... the Samsung measures 61.4 MB/s...

Hey guys, nice one Zicko. I might give it a try myself. I got a Samsung HD321KJ (T series) in the mail today, and it sure vibrates a lot. A loud low frequency hum. I had also ordered a Nexus Disktwin heatsink/suspension kinda thing to go with it. http://www.azerty.nl/_azerty/data/product/3/9/1/3913/...

Hm I was thinking that maybe the styrofoam would serve to reflect some of the noise back into the case. I guess I'm wrong about that then? 1cm of styrofoam holds only about 5 cells, very little mass. Is the only way to create a noise-block the use of high density materials? I'm not worried so much a...

With me I think it started after I ordered my Duron 800 system back in 2001. I had no idea computers had become so noisy. It never caught my attention before, with my K6 266 and my 586 120 and my 286 10... never a problem. But this time I had a freaking noisy cpu fan, a power supply that would ramp ...

After seeing that I have enough components lying around to build a new (old) computer myself, I've decided to try my hand at this myself :). I'm planning to build a cardboard inner box lined with 12mm foam, which sits inside an outer box with the space between filled with 30mm styrofoam. I want it t...

The Asrock 7050 mobo specifications page explicitly states that it can output to D-sub and DVI simultaneously. I don't know if that also implies dual-head in the sense of an extended desktop, but I suppose so. I don't know about the 690G though. It seems the 690G is better at most games, but as you ...

Maybe it would be a good idea if SPCR put a little notice on the main article about these things, cause if you're just comparing products you're (I am) not likely to check out the discussion here, so people may end up buying something that is not quiet at all before discovering that that was quite w...

Perhaps a 90 degree curve in each pathway? I'd imagine a complex pathway maze would make air less.. willing to move, but I have no idea how air really behaves in these kind of situations. Well I'm not sure... but note that mounting a 120mm fan PSU inside a Antec P180 forces the air to move in a 90 ...

Sounds like a cool think. I kinda like the idea of having a multi layered box holding all my noisy components. Personally I would put a bit more effort into it and make it out of more sturdy materials, maybe triplex or compressed wood fibre, especially for the inner box. And if you're using multiple...

Right. Well of course I was wary about using raw company supplied accoustic measurements. But another WD Scorpio (sata model) was rated 4dB higher on the same website, so that had me think. I'm pretty sure both models are quite quiet though, the Scorpio is on SPRC's recommended HD list (slightly dif...

I think having a 3.5" external is not such a strange idea for laptop users. Many people have no desktop computer, only a laptop, and the advantage is that you don't need a desk for it. So with a 3.5" external you can still have a > 250GB media collection (the largest mobile usb-powered harddisk I've...
