Re: Comments/Advice on mATX build
I have a Gene VII, but what is this audio input that you are speaking of? I don't see it anywhere!?! I'm not sure what wink here means. At the risk of ruining some joke: I'd be referring to the analog in connector on the SupremeFX II daughter board. Btw, I need to warn you that its VRM might...

Re: Best fan control?
Some people simply do not like fan control software of any sort and prefer BIOS control. Like me. I only want UEFI control. Because I use Linux, and Windows-based fan control is pretty much useless on Linux. I am a software developer, so I do understand the benefits of controlling fans from a softw...

Blocking/Damping a Corsair 350D
A bit early to make final decisions, but I was curious about other experiences: For now, I'm planning on buying a Corsair 350D for a December build of a mATX gaming/development system. For the first three years of its life, it will house a gaming video card (GTX 770 to start), for the last three it ...

Re: Comments/Advice on mATX build
I mean that: AFAIK the built in digital mixer isn't enough to mix two PC as inputs to one output (and even USB DAC/audio interfaces - like the U7 - don't work that way). But... that's how I'm using it right now. Working on my Linux PC, the sounds from Skype/Term Bells/Flash audio are mixed into the...

Re: Comments/Advice on mATX build
What I really want is to be able to mix the audio. Then you need a mixer with possibly a couple of SPDIF inputs. That is, essentially, what the X-Fi Platinum is. It's a sound card with a built-in digital mixer and pre-amp. If I wanted to ditch that, then yes, what I'd be looking for is either a USB...

Re: Comments/Advice on mATX build
How about a simple passive switch to put between your two PC sources and whatever analog device you are driving? Should have decent isolation/avoid groundloop issues. I'm using a KVM right now, and part of that includes the ability to act as an audio switch. However, it is a straight switch, and af...

Re: Comments/Advice on mATX build
...just thinking out loud...there are plenty of audio devices that rely upon USB to get the information from the PC (USB DACs, headsets) or to the PC (USB sound boards, headset mics)...seems like there ought to be some s/w that will allow you to run streaming digital audio from one PC to the other ...

Re: Comments/Advice on mATX build
The audio thing seems funky to me. I won't even ask why you are running audio from one PC to another :D Two PCs, one set of headphones? I am a developer. I work on Linux. Games need Windows. It's really annoying to swap the input on headphones every time I want to switch to the other system. And it...

Re: Comments/Advice on mATX build
Even the ASUS Z97 Gryphon would be interesting: check it out with reference to your requirements. Yeah, I'm strongly considering the Gryphon. Here's the story on that: I have two PCs: One windows, one Linux. They share a UPS. They also share a KVM (so I can use one monitor, keyboard and mouse and j...

Re: Comments/Advice on mATX build
Why a mITX board in a mATX case? Bah. Because I copied the PCPP list from an earlier mITX build list and forgot to pick the mATX board? It's updated in the top post now. Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 1TB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($434.00 @ Amazon) ...snipped out... Thoughts? Wouldn't be a better pick ? Th...

Re: Comments/Advice on mATX build
No, actually the Tachyon wouldn't seem a suitable unit: differently from the various Kingwin, Azza, Silentmaxx, and other, that Rosewill would seem the only Golden King unit without hybrid cooling (as the CM Vanguard is the only Seasonic KM with hybrid cooling disabled). And as I an lodestar discov...

Re: Comments/Advice on mATX build
If you haven't found it already, from the Legit Reviews review Yup. Spotted that. This was the complaint I had against other Rosewill PSUs. They either used cheap fans, sleeve bearing fans (mounted horizontally, of course), or fans that spun too fast to be quiet. Sure, it's going to be sitting next...

And so begins the Dance of Discounts. The only good news is that you usually end up getting something good for less than you expected. The Tachyon for $90 is pretty impressive, too. I'm just checking on the fan now.

Re: Comments/Advice on mATX build
Be quick: it's EOL, so grab one before they're gone Ah. That explains the sale. Should its EOL be a concern to me? I imagine warranties still need to be honored, it just might be honored by replacing the unit with a different PSU, I guess. (a Tachyon might be a viable alternative , in case). The Ta...

Re: Comments/Advice on mATX build
Hi there, again. Being in the U.S, consider the Rosewill SilentNight 500W , for about $105 for the next few days at Newegg Noted. That's actually a very nice deal. A fanless Superflower for $100. That just might be the first part I order. Unless "fake" Virginia isn't in Virginia... Nah, it's Virgin...

Re: Comments/Advice on mATX build
Quiet components inside = quiet outside. Your gfx card will be the dominant source. The lower limit on MSI fans is typically ~1000rpm. Quiet, but audible at idle. You won't hear dialed down case fans or CPU cooler over this. I know it. I bought the 770 when my 660 Ti died. I knew what I was getting...

Set aside any furniture, he desires a new enclosure, he likes the Obsidian 250D style (and I like it too), and anyway he would want to hold on the smaller volumes, that's about all I understood for sure (or so I guess  ). I've worked on plenty of homes that dont have truly straight walls and seen many desks/cabinets that were not square. And my home is no different, to be sure. Re: Planning a MiniITX Gaming Build
Getting back to the case... maybe the area isn't square, maybe the manufacturing tolerances are wide enough so one 210mm case can fit and another won't. <shrugs>. Yup. Shrugging is the suggested response here. All I know is the measurements of the cases in front of me. Assume you need 205mm max wid...

Re: Planning a MiniITX Gaming Build

I think a metric ruler is in order. Using SAE and converting it happens to be about as effective as using a Print ruler. Seriously? We can't even trust a tape measure? Re: Planning a MiniITX Gaming Build
See the photos below of me measuring the width of the cases. SPCR will only let me attach three in this post, so for now, you'll just have to take my word that I wasn't totally tricking you by measuring more than the width of the PC-9F. The measurement is in inches, but I'll convert. The lighting is...

Re: Planning a MiniITX Gaming Build
I guess I have a hard time believing that of all of the reviews and measurements say 210mm, and you have a 5mm discrepancy. I completely agree. I thought the exact same thing. I found it just as difficult to believe. Again: I bought the PC-9F, also repeatedly mentioned to be 210mm, with the intenti...

Re: Planning a MiniITX Gaming Build
If the P182 is measured at 210mm, and the P182 is there, your space is 210mm. Not 205mm. If I park my car in a spot, and then I remove my car from the spot, I can take a car equally as wide, and fit it in the spot, no? No. I physically measured the P182 at 205mm. I took a tape measure, laid it acro...

Re: Planning a MiniITX Gaming Build
Considering the source of both of my measurements is SPCR reviews of both cases, I'm going to say it's plenty safe enough to say that they're the same width. I got measurements from SPCR and a couple other sources. All of them agreed that the PC-9F and P182 were the exact same width: 210mm. Regardl...

I don't think it's a matter of different opinions, just about facts (not to mention your persistent sort of badass attitude): as long as you are not informed about actual PSUs efficiency, more probably that not you're not informed about the cooling prowess of different heatsinks, and about the expe...

Re: Planning a MiniITX Gaming Build
The width of the P182 is 210mm, the width of the TJ08 is 210mm. I fail to see the difference here. Do I have a different type of ruler than you? I don't know. I measure the P182 as 205mm, maybe as low as 200mm in the middle where the leg presses against it. The PC-9F is about 210mm (slightly wider ...

Re: Planning a MiniITX Gaming Build
So, along with "quiet", much like "cool" and "attractive", even "significantly" is a subjective term... Yup. For me, 3 degrees difference under full load isn't significant. My living room has a thermal variance of 2 degrees. At the temperatures we're dealing with, this 3 degree difference means a C...
