30-inch monitor recommendations
Build is an AM1 AMD 5350 (2Ghz) with integrated graphics (HD 8400) Used for lite office work and HTPC duty > netflix/DVR. I want to get a larger monitor, but want to make sure i'm not bottlenecked and end up paying for more than i can use... Currently, I run a Dell 22" 1680 x 1050 but would like som...

Re: Sapphire R9 270
I was able to pick up a pair of R9 280x cards. One for each machine! I negotiated an Asus Direct CU TOP II for $140, and an MSI Twin Frozr for $130. I know these are 'hot' cards - but for the price on craigslist - i feel it was worth it. At least as an admirable stop gap until i can upgrade to the G...

Re: HTPC / Light to Medium Games
i was wondering why you moved away from the i3-4160T, 35W ?
Seems a great option for HTPC light gaming - given the heat concerns.
I'm looking to do a similar build based on the i3-4160T, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any i3-4160T availability in the US (even as OEM).

Re: 120mm fan recommendations for GD09 build
I've just built on the GD09 as well. I believe my configuration is similar to yours, in that my mechanical HDD has to be placed in the vertical position under the optical bay using the included bracket. There is a bit of padding below the HDD, but the other connections are not grommeted or otherwise...

That W2 looks perfect
I love it!!
Only problem is, nobody is selling it?!
I'll hold out as long as I can, and send out some inquiries to newegg
not sure i'm willing to fork over the surcharge for shipping from Europe, but that looks like the case i've been dreaming of
Thanks for the find!!

Re: Cooler Master: HAF XB EVO
Thanks for the tips! while it would work, I find the CoolerMaster HAF XB EVO pretty unappealing... The Silverstone GD09/10 would work, but i already have the GD09 as an HTPC downstairs... and it appears to be the only option. Now, I'm leaning towards replacing the motherboard and going with a micro-...

Re: Sapphire R9 270
There is so much excitement with regards to the GTX 9xx series i may elect to wait and see about the 960s my local micro-center has an 'open-box' eVGA Superclocked GTX 970 for $305. it would be a stretch, but would keep me from having to consider an upgrade for quite some time. one concern is that A...

Re: Cooler Master: HAF XB EVO
Yes, this is eventually going to have a graphics card as well.
And it will be in a cabinet, though the back is open. Depth and width won't be an issue, hence looking at the HAF XB.

My new build is in an NZXT h440 I like the case well enough (though it needs some under-volting of the intake fans) But my wife wants to move the PC onto a shelf - with 16.5" clearance. I don't want to rebuild around a micro-ATX form factor, so I'm looking for 'shorter' full ATX cases. I have a 280m...

I've just about completed a major update of our home computers. I sold a pair of AMD-Phenom 7750 (2.70Ghz) w/ 8800 GTS graphics cards and now have caught up generationally with a pair of PCs built around i5-4690K CPUs. I'm a bit under budget at this point, but am looking into discrete graphics optio...

Recommend an IR Receiver for use with Logitech 880
I have a great HTPC with bluetooth mouse/keyboard, and I'm able to control everything else (DVD/DVR/Stereo etc.) with a Logitech 880 Universal remote. I'd like to see about using just the remote to wake the PC, and launch iTunes or MCE and carry out basic function (i.e. skip/pause...). Will most any...

Eureka!
The in-line Coax surge protector worked GREAT!
Well worth the $20 investment.
Note, the hum wasn't isolated to the sub only (though most noticeable there), so I don't thing a "ground loop isolator on the sub input" would have worked.
cheers!

Surge Protector vs. "Power Centers"
Do I just need any surge protector with coax pass, or should I get one of those fancy "power centers"? i.e. from Monster. They claim to 'clean' the power and enhance video & audio. But there seem to be a lot of mixed reviews from consumers, and I haven't seen ANY professional reviews. These also can...

Help! Speaker/Sub Hum associated with Cable & HTPC
I'm getting a lot of humming from my living room surround speaker system, most notably my subwoofer. I have Sharp LCD TV & Onkyo AV Receiver with inputs from DVD player, CD player, Xbox360, HTPC and Cable box DVR. The problem seems to be associated with the DVR/Cable signal and/or the HTPC. I can be...

So far no luck with software solutions. Can anyone recommend a decent sound card that will pass optical or coax signal for 5.1 movies to my a/v receiver? Surround Sound Output via Coax Digital Out??
Can anyone explain why my HTPC is not able to output dolby digital directly to my AV receiver? I only get 2 channel, which is then up-converted by the receiver... Is this a hardware or software issue? I have an Asus M2n-e motherboard with Coax (S/PDIF) out which runs the audio signal to my Onkyo SR-...

awesome thanks for the info! How about then, adding just 1gb to the 2gb i already have? Vista Help : 4 x 1 gb in my Asus A8n32SLI deluxe
Need a little help from a PC Guru... I'm currently running one pair of CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR-400 CL 2 in dual channel; Asus A8n32SLI deluxe; Athlon X2 4200+ but Vista is RAM-monger, and I'd like to go to 4gb for a better gaming experience. actually, does anyone know of an after-market filter that would work; and be easy to remove for cleaning? Rosewill RCX-Z3 - Lose the plastic casing
I've had a Rosewill RCX-Z3 for about 2 years now. Lucky enough to get it for 1/2 price at newegg - $25 shipped! It is a great tower heat sink with a nice rheostat controller that mounts to a pci slot for variable fan speed (92mm fan). However, after a couple months I could see dust accumulating arou...

HELP; Ahanix Black Knight / 3RSystem R101 fan controller
I've got this great case - 3 temp. sensors, front & rear 120mm fans with 6-speed settings and display. Supposedly, you can program the fan speed to ramp up based on the temperature reading on sensor 1, however I have no idea how to program it? Lost the instructions, but if I remember correctly, they...
