Re: WD 3TB Green released
Our house definitely falls into the "hoarder" category. I have 13TB on my WHS box and half of that is currently being used for video. According to SageTV, I have 1005.12 hours of video content. Where does it all go? We regularly record entire seasons or entire shows and don't get to them for quite a...

Re: Platter density plateau?
Oh, the irony. Now, just release one with 2 platters at 7200rpm.

Re: Platter density plateau?
Maybe it's all in my head then and they haven't been at 667GB for all that long. The noise issue is precisely why I'm looking at no more than two platters. My current setup has primarily 2 platter, 1TB, 7200rpm Samsung drives. I think I have 5 of these in my server and the rest are 4 platter, 1TB, W...

Platter density plateau?
Is it just me or has the industry seemed to be stuck at 667GB/platter for quite some time now? I'm still waiting for a 7200rpm, 2 platter, 1.5 or 2TB hard drive, so I can begin replacing my 1TB drives. Any rumors?

Front Page Link to Forum Discussion?
I'd like to see a link on the front page that goes to the relevant forum discussion. At a minimum, I'd like to see this for anything the site reviews, but a link for all items would be welcome in my book, as well. Anyone else? My primary reason is that in order to return to a discussion, I have to c...

Filters
You mention that the filters are LESS restrictive in the P183. How do they compare to something like a Nexus 80mm filter ? Any chance of a side-by-side? From the looks of all the pictures, it's doesn't appear that there were any filters in place when the pictures were taken. Either that or they're R...

I'm actually just about to attempt to accomplish this very thing. I've got a blog going over at Missing Remote. No pictures yet, but I spent a ton of time doing research here at SPCR and elsewhere before purchasing anything. I've got very high hopes for the resulting server. While the primary focus ...

Yes, you're willing to wait... but there are many complex relationships SPCR has with sample suppliers, advertisers, and others you could call partners -- and they've been waiting for some reviews for months. Their expectation that their samples get reviewed -- whether positively or not -- are star...

I haven't posted because I really don't have much to add from a technical standpoint. However, I did want to say how much I'm enjoying reading about the progress, the discussion, and the problems. Well, I'm not "enjoying" the problems, but you know what I mean! :D I really appreciate the effort here...

Get some temp readings however you can, just so you have something to compare to each time you make a change. Speedfan just happens to be the most common tool. Without something to gauge the temperatures, you have no way of knowing whether the changes are having an improvement or actually making thi...

Definitely a step in the right direction!!! I would still work on routing the cables even further out of the way, along and under the motherboard tray. If you're overclocking, you need as much free airflow as possible. Again, though, HUGE improvement already! Run Speedfan and see what kind of temps ...

9 fans [ 5 120mm, and 4 60-140mm fans ] WOW! That's a pretty large number of case fans. Which case are you using? My thought is that if you have the right number of fans both taking in and expelling close CFMs, then you should achieve a good balance of cool and somewhat quiet pretty easily. Remembe...

Okay, so, if you're looking to save money, then I sincerely think that some serious cable management is in order. Also, how many fans can your case support... actually mounted, that is! ;) I'd make sure that you have nearly identical flow into the case and out of the case, from the bottom up. Then, ...

That sounds more logical. My guess is you'll need a videocard that has an HDCP compliant HDMI output, which you'll plug into the HDMI input on the Xonar. In turn, the Xonar will add the HD audio to the HDMI stream and output it over it's own HDMI output. That thing better come with a custom HDMI cab...

Funny.. the AMD CPU would have been of more use to me than the Corsair VX450W I won, even though I do appreciate it a lot. Unfortunately, the two prizes are not really in the same league. True, but it's a matter of "needs". I think it's awesome I won the Phenom, but, in order to use it, I'd need to...
