Re: Cooler for Antec Fusion - Ninja Mini replacement?
I also have a Antec Fusion case with a Schythe Mini Ninja - and I too love the design of both the case and the cooler. I would really enjoy to refurbish it someday (soon) as a HTPC with new MB and stuff. I agree with OP's thought to get air flowing better through the case with a sideblowing tower co...

Re: New SPCR design & management
SPCR was my favourite computer site for years when silencing really mattered. It meant a lot to me as I loved to build and tinker with computers. After the golden years, I was really sad to see the diminishing trickle of articles and tests run into a full stop a couple of years back now. I had high ...

Buy for a smaller future; get mini-ITX now. H170 or Z170 chipset, M2 slot for SSD, and USB 3.1 with a USB C connector onboard. WiFi for convenience. Preferably HDMI+DP for your monitor(s). My search leads me to; Gigabyte GA-H170N-WIFI /Z170N-WIFI or GA-Z170N-Gaming5. ASRock Fatal1ty Z170. For CPU ha...

Ok, more wild thoughts; Really, really, really smart fan control could have a calibrations phase using different load scenarios, then registering temp sensors on graphs while controlling the fans (after determining fans characteristics ofc) to interpret fan placement, and task (in/out). This could t...

I'm pleased to see ASUS continuing efforts to improve features that help with PC acoustics, ... +1 I'd be happy to see ASUS continue to chase this section of computer /mobo designs, other companies may only later see the benefits this means to the end user. Do the H and B series also have this feat...

I agree on maybe waiting out the high end GFX section a bit if your plans & money allow. A decent GTX960 will serve you nicely until you get a new monitor, even for Witcher 3 if you reduce the settings a bit. I'm also a fan of getting a good monitor which will then live trough several PC's (I usuall...

FlatpanelsHD (Denmark, but in English) has been going for many years too. You can get PRAD in English as far as I can see, by clicking the Union Jack, here's the linky. Even reviews are also in English - I didn't read a lot, but I think it's not googlish[shudder]. TFT Central is probably the most s...

Regarding the GPU at the top in the concept I showed above, I wonder what you might consider the optimal arrangement to be then. +1 on the link to xbitlabs article on CPUs. All things considered - maybe wattage caps makes sense for some, and ...

Hi there. I have turned the PSU so it has the intake up with its own fresh air. I decided to do that since my PC lives under the desk it and doesn't get so much s*** coming in there anyway, dust and hazards won't a big problem hopefully. I did (and do) have a juryrigged 120mm fan just over the HD ca...

And, yeah - if the computer your want to put in a standard ATX case is a Dell or HP or any of the brand name players, they can have non-standard MB fittings and power connectors, at least they used to so be aware. For connectivity your motherboard determines most or all of that, if it has USB3 there...

Hi, and welcome. It is a brilliant idea to buy second hand to save money, as the performance strides in the PC industry hasn't been that great the last 3 years or so. Surely you can get good performing HW for less money than new stuff (save your money for good monitor/mouse/keyboard, one of my perso...

Re: Low Power mini-itx "Workstation"
Interesting topic with much good advice (from some of SPCR's best). My advice would be to make sure to get HD4600 on your CPU, and if you have the opportunity - try it out with your old case and PSU. If that works well performance wise, then you can get a Pico PSU and small case for your system. Abo...

If your RAM and CPU heatsink isn't touching you should be fine, just remember to be careful if reinstalling. RAM chips can be really hard to install because, yes - you need to apply lotsa pressure to make it go 'click'. It's possible to also press lightly on the latches to help out. Having installed...

Re: Need your help with building a mini itx system
Sugo sg05 & 06 are frikking tiny - I do like them myself for the small format, but I have never tried to do a build in any of them. For those SFF PSU's I think you might want to look into if one or both has that 80 gold rating or not, for best possible power efficiency. And also whether they have 6/...

Re: New attempt at making my fileserver silent. Advice neede
All casefans are connected using a molex connector, so I guess they run at full speed (12V). I would guess some type of fan control would do good ? Maybe also swap some them if they are noisy by default. After fans (and maybe PSU) you will want to silence your hard drives. In a P182 you could easil...

Re: Suggestions for an (asymetric) set of HDD's
I'll just join the choir and suggest WD red's. Especially 2x 3TB's - I'll think they will cover your need for speed and relative silence, hopefully at a decent price point. 2x 2TB if you want more silence, I think most drives are less noisy with less platters (?). Later you'll know that you have a n...

TJ08E-7.jpg Added a few more pictures to detail the cardboard - it kills a whole lot of dead space (air), and I think it's a big part of the good results I think I get with just one exhaust fan - well, under load the PSU probably exhausts some hot air too (but fighting with the gfx card for the sam...
