I would suggest you spend a few money to buy a power meter first such like Seasonic PowerAngel. It's very useful to measure the system AC power

Re: Seasonic X-400 upside (-down)?

I placed X-400 upside in Antec Solo, which has 1cm headroom between the top (ventilation side) of PSU and the top panel of Solo. It can cool itself very well in system full load, i.e. only feel a bit warm after long time burn, though the measured AC power of my system is only ~130W in CPU Burn + GPU...

I'm using a X-400 in my Solo build, and never experience any cooling problem.

Regarding using X-560 or others, I suppose you will have the same odd air flow because the fan doesn't spin up when system is idle.

Re: X-400 buzz noise

I'm sure the noise is from PSU instead of motherboard. When the problem happens, I plug out all fans in the system, thus there is only one hard disk left. And I can confirm the noise is from the region of PSU. Besides PSU itself, I also hesitate whether it's possible with the electric grid. My home ...

Re: Fractal Design Define XL - Impressions anyone?

I was impressed by their R3 (wish this can be reviewed by SPCR), this one looks too huge to me.

Considering Antec's extremely slow update on P18X series, Fractal Design's cases can be very good alternatives.

Re: Is 9cm front fan effective on Antec Solo[?]

I agree with your opinions. According to my previous experience, the front ingress fan, even if it's 12cm, is not cost effective (cooling versus noise) and difficult to notice the difference. The 80C is definitely not high for GPU core, but the VRM temperature is unknown. However, I was also impress...

Is 9cm front fan effective on Antec Solo[?]

I believe it can cool the hard disk pretty well, however the temperature of my GreenPower disk is not a big problem (40C in system load & in summer). I have a passively cooled VGA card (AC S1 on HD3650) which can bump to ~80C in GPU burn. The first question is: Does the front fan improve the cooling...

X-400 buzz noise

I have been using this fanless PSU for nearing one month. It's almost silent in 90% time, i.e. only if I place my ear very close (<10cm) to it, I can hear a faint buzz. However, occasionally the buzz noise of this PSU can become very significant, which is clearly perceivable from 50cm far. It's diff...

Nice build. except you have too many fans.

One quick question: Before and after applying Akasa PAX2 Acoustic Pad, did you notice any thing different? Is it effective in noise reducing?

Re: No Moving Parts Rig by rkay

It's cool. However, my X-400 exhibits significant buzz noise (louder than a 800rpm fan) sometimes, e.g. encounter once (last for hours) every a couple of days, even if the system is turned off. Have you ever experience similar issue?

Re: My Solo build (Q9450, X-400, AC S1)

The actual fan speed (reported by Everest) is: Noctua S12 (~890rpm), Scythe SFLEX-E (~620rpm). Noctua S12 is a weird fan, if I open the side panel, its speed falls down to ~840rpm. If I reduce CPU fan's speed, it further increases. I don't know why Its an air restriction. See this thread . For damp...

My Solo build (Q9450, X-400, AC S1)

This rig is built 2.5 years before and acts as my main PC to browse Internet, watch HD videos, and play some old games (such like Age of Empires III). It was very noisy initially, and this gave me the chance to know SPCR and learn a lot of things here on silence. After recent upgrades, I'm pretty sa...

Which Scythe fan is a better choice? (S-FLEX or SlipStream)

I raise this question for two reasons: 1 I saw in latest Puget Serenity review, they updated the case fan and CPU fan to Slipstream, while the previous case fans are S-FLEX. Does it indicate that SlipStream is a better choice in practice? 2 I have used a SFLEX-E as CPU fan (undervolted to 600r...

I also propose HR02 to replace Megahalems, which has much better performance in passive cooling. Note that it's very huge and may extend outside the motherboard, make sure it doesn't conflict with your case. I quite hesitate whether TJ08 is a good choice for your rig, since you have a passive VGA ca...

I experienced this issue with my 5-drive Solo file server build. I believe what you're hearing is the side panel vibrating against the rest of the chassis. It's an amazing work. Thanks for update and review! It's difficult to image with many noise sources (3 fans and one disk, considering their individual test dBL), the whole system can still be so silent. I'm very curious that if we don't apply the AcoustiPack (or doesn't apply it everywhere, e.g. jus...

Agree, though FT02 seems too powerful and huge for non-gaming users. Another interesting alternative is Lianli A05N, which places PSU at the front. If we reverse the rear fan direction (The original design is to pull air from outside into the case, i.e. positive pressure. This is not necessary for g...

For a power supply to be cooled passively, the case should be vented on top and there should be no air path between the system fan and the power supply. Example: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=60050&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight= That's a good thread. However, coo...

Regarding positive pressure, actually I have tried (due to insane during first installation, both case fan and CPU fan are reversed, and the case fan pulls air from outside) but the temperature is not as good as negative (~5C difference especially VGA card). But is it deadly for the card? Did it ca...

Have you tried opening slot covers below the graphics card? This should allow for more air to come in not through the PSU. Also, maybe positive pressure is the way to go with this setup. By that I mean turning the back fan around. (And still creating a vent near the graphics card.) Yes, that's what...

What you are hearing is the effect of air resonance in an enclosed space. You can reduce the effect with acoustic foam... and quieter components. Presumably the HDD is suspended; do it if not. Just start to use it a couple of days before, some experience sharing: 1 The PSU is mounted upside as Seasonic suggested. Thermalright HR02 is not compatible with Antec Solo on P35

Note that the compatibility varies on different platforms and motherboards. For my case (Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3), the measured distance between CPU center and motherboard's edge is ~6.4cm, meanwhile HR02 is 14cm wide. It means there is some extension (~0.5cm) outside the motherboard. I hesitate Therma...
