Very disapointed in the WD Red NAS 8TB noise level
I got two WD Red NAS 8TB drives (WD80EFZX 128MB 8TB) and a Node 304 recently to replace my 14 drive Lian Li fulltower fileserver. I thought 3.5" HDD had come a long way in recent years. In my 14 drive fileserver I used mainly WD green drives, and they where silent. By no means quiet, but they where ...

Re: Corsair SF450 spinning at idle
I had an Ncase M1 with a semi passive SFX PSU (Silverstone) but I could never get the PSU fan to stop spinning. I eventually sold the case and went back to a regular ATX case as it was too loud.

Re: Energy efficient Eyefinity setup
Wow, 35w seems a bit steep, maybe thats peanuts on the total power bill. 6 x 22 w = 132 w Say a typical system is around 65w, add 35w for GFX board that is 65+35+132 = 232 w, not that bad when you know six screens are running I have to admit. Ghosting etc... I dont know, this 7 year old 23" monitor ...

Energy efficient Eyefinity setup
Hi guys, Intro: Time to upgrade monitor, been running this 23" 1920x1200 monitor for 6 years now (75 watt normal, eco mode=50watt). Cost $1600 and it has THE most annoying 40mm fan inside it (to bad it was not mentioned in the webshop, f"n Dustin Swedish retailer), cant wait to replace it with silen...

Re: A Windows system with idle power ~ 10 watt?
I was looking for the same thing this summer for a small server (CVS). Price/energy efficiency, nothing beats this at the moment IMHO: http://mini-itx.se/epc01batom27016ghz-p-175.html (and you don't have to mess around the system, just install OS and run). I have not measured how much w the system d...

Considering drives at idle runs at around 3 watt that is 34 watt for your system which I think is impressive. I would chose CF-card too but I havent found a good Linux solid state installation yet that runs installation on auto-pilot. I am planning to top out at 12-14 harddrives, I dont know what PS...

Yeah, please keep us informed, thats a very interesting card. I am definitely interested in it. You have an impressive system considering you add montor and router to the mix. The router consumes around 10watt IIRC (have the same). There are some ECO screens 22-23" TFT which are just under 30 watt, ...

Actually, original question was slightly dumb by me. I am currently running Radeon 4630 gfx board, it is a very energy efficient card in idle, BUT it is capable of running most games in 1920x1200 if I remove antialias. So this card is idling consuming around 15watt. I have a fanless cooler on it but...

People are getting notebooks true, but in a couple of years most of them are going to be running a media hub in their house, or fileservers as they where called "back in the day". When mainstream people run fileservers there is going to be a shift to interest in green computing I think. Computer sys...

Hybrid technology is sadly not used anymore, and it never took off :( IIRC in the MacBookPro with 8400 and 9600 gfx chip you can switch between the cards thanks to hybrid technology, but I would like a desktop solution for hi-end cards instead. 30 w iddle sounds great, now all I need is a 30-35w com...

Green gaming computer suggestions?
Hi, What are your suggestion for a green gaming computer with enough power to run most games maxed at 1920 x 1200? (not Crysiz though). I am not looking for a monstah idle gaming computer that warm my appartment at 350 watt idle. I want power in idle to be around 60 watt (desktop). In full use durin...

I dont know about duos, but on my Quad I can start as many apps as I want to and the system just begs for more. The only bottleneck is the harddrive. Now with that said, I only did it in the first week, then I went into my old behavior of surfing the web with 3-4 explorers open and a couple of other...

I know this is an old thread but this configuration reminds me much of my own fileserver that today contains six 3.5" harddrives and one 2.5" SYS drive. Since I am running Ubuntu I have more power over disk spin downs (unlike in Windows where disks ocasionaly spins up and slows down, even if you set...

I got an 80plus PSU today and iddle in Vista without Aero it stays at 85 watt, occasionaly goes up to 105 w for a second. Almost the same as with the old Zalman PSU from 2003, I am actually a bit disapointed in this purchase, I thought an 80+ PSU would lower watt more. Actually I went into bios and ...

I did not know about "Minimal Power Management", I googled it and found out you can run "powercfg.cpl" in the startbar. But whatever I chose there I am still idle between 89-90 watt, there is no "minimal power management" option there though (maybe because Im running Vista?). Just as a comparison, I...

Yes, you are right about my Photoshop habbits, to be honest with you it runs well for me on my 1.6 Ghz dual core work notebook at the office when I think about it :) That looks promising, with a new AMD system I could idle at 40 watt with my 4670 graphics card (which idles around 8-10 watt). Another...
