Hey, great to have you on board. Here's a link about the bonus program: http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=13160 That's the basic description for standard smp folding, bigadv also has bonuses, but not for gpus as of yet. Although if you read further on that bulletin board, it sounds like t...

Re: 140mm fans good for horizontal (on top) mount?

The prolimatech blue (or red) vortex fans are good, they were reviewed on the site here in the prolimatech genesis review ( http://www.silentpcreview.com/prolimatech-genesis ). They're hard to find, but I've been using a couple in a horizontal configuration for a few months now, they work great, sti...

Re: I have a challenge for users who know their motherboards

Ah, checked my motherboards, the one I have is an Asus p5b deluxe, here's a link: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5B_Deluxe/ It's an older board, but it does have the right kind of spacing to put two dual slot cards and two pci cards in it. If you're interested in buying mine, let...

Re: Which GTX560 Ti is the most quiet?

I have an MSI twin frozr gtx 460 (might be a slightly different brand name, but it's the same kind of cooler) and it's not super quiet. I keep it in a case that's well ventilated, and with a little fan speed limiting in afterburner I've made it fairly quiet. But it really depends on what kind of loa...

Re: Homebuilt quiet PC case

The 3 fan design seems solid, although I'd be tempted to put the two fans in the middle and the single fan on the back. That's more of a positive pressure design, but it keeps more fans in the interior, so it should be less noisy. The big reason to use more fans is so that you can undervolt them, an...

I had a 250mm fan I was able to get pretty quiet by undervolting it, might work on a 200mm fan. But getting some known quiet 120mm fans would be safer.

Re: Homebuilt quiet PC case

I like the storage thing up top, that's cool. And putting the fan deeper in the interior should keep it more quiet, good plan. As far as moving the motherboard back and not having all the ports on the side, that's not a bad idea. With the monitor and keyboard built in, it starts looking like a lapto...

Re: Homebuilt quiet PC case

Ah, I see. Well, then a 2nd fan for the motherboard would probably be a good idea, especially if you are using a dedicated gpu. Not a bad idea all around, I think I've seen something like it before someplace. The keyboard cubby is a cool idea, although that does mean that the depth of the keyboard d...

I've been following this a little bit on a different site, and yeah, it sounds fairly fishy. Re: Homebuilt quiet PC case

Well, it looks interesting. So I take it that if you're mounting the LCD on the front, then we're staring at it head on in the picture you put up? I'm worried that I'm misinterpreting it here. It's not a bad way to go, having the fans on the sides so neither is facing the user. Speaking of that, if ...

Re: Case recommendation with height constraint

Well, as long as it fits your space, seems like you got a deal, I'd keep it. Moving the top fan seems like a good idea, it looks like there's a front fan mount, so it shouldn't be too hard. Maybe get a quieter fan if it's too loud. To block the top vent, cardboard should be fine. No need to get to c...

Re: Fanless PSU with (almost) no soldering for < $12

Yeah, seems like this is a pretty complicated exercise, when the easy way to go would have been to solder a resistor in the fan line to slow it down, or just replace it with a quieter fan. Slightly more complicated than gluing a teacup to a heat sink, but a nice proven technique. The ceramic won't c...

Re: Back in the Fold

A ps3, ok, that'll help a little. Your gpu sounds about right, but yeah, your smp folding does seem a little slow. You might want to check for background processes, see if there's something eating your cpu time. I always used to notice a drop if I left a web browser open. Oh, and make sure to deacti...

Re: Back in the Fold

Ah, that's right, I was thinking that you had 8 cores instead of four. Well, you may want to keep -smp 3, but you'll probably want to do a little checking first. Try running just the gpu with no smp folding for an hour or so, keep an eye on cpu usage. If it's nowhere near 25%, then just run with -sm...
