Don't know if it's the best, but I've given new life to some Slipstreams with oil meant for sewing machines.

Oh, since this is in the cases and damping section:

The solo is a great choice. But if you go all SSD and without a graphics card, you would be well served with an NSK3480. Of course, that'd mean switching your motherboard for a microATX version, but there's plenty of those.

Unless you want the Noctua S12B for its looks or its accessories, get Scythe Sliptreams instead. While the S12B isn't a bad fan, in my experience the Slipstream is better. At half the price, the Slipstream is of far greater value. As to your other components, I think the 955 is overpowered. Assuming...

As an aside, if you're building a gaming PC, your monitor choice (HP LP2475w) is strange.

It's a superb monitor (I have it myself), but it's more of a high end office monitor. Although it'll do fine on games, you can find far cheaper monitors that will perform better for gaming purposes.

(The fan swap idea related to the Ninja Mini, which comers with a 80mm fan). If you are going with the full size Ninja, you will need a separate 80mm fan. Oh man, I completely spaced on that! If I was to order the 80mm Scythe fan separately, do you know what model comes with the Mini Ninja? I can't...

I've built an HTPC based on the same MB/CPU combo, with the same basic requirements. I can't answer all your questions, but I have some observations which may help Anobody know of shorter (less tall) SFF enclosures that are decent? The NSK3480 is small, but fitting 3 HDs in there may be complicated....

This is just about the same HTPC I built. Any reason you chose the Intel IGP rather than nVidia? Quoting from here: The P5Q-EM is a good board, but the P5N7A-VM is simply better. [ SPCR ] One case fan is indeed enough. I'm using an L Slipstream. At 12V (~850RPM), everything is peachy; undervolted (5...

I was in the market for a 24'' monitor for a while, and Dell did seem to be a frontrunner, though expensive (in Switzerland). Then I read some great reviews on HP's LP2475w, which I ended up buying. I am extremely happy with it. What particularly stands out for me is its build quality. It doesn't wo...

Thanks, that's good to hear.

If I find a little time tomorrow, I'm going to switch the heatsinks between PCs, just to make sure one of them isn't screwy.

Trouble with new builds

I built my first PCs this weekend, based in large part on the reviews and opinions gathered on SPCR and its forum. The components for the builds are identical, save for the cases: NSK3480 / NSK2480 ASUS P5N7A-VM Intel E5200 Scythe Ninja Mini (Passive) Arctic Cooling MX-2 Scythe Slip Stream SY1225SL1...
