Re: Dual Xeon Setup - InWin 909/Supressor F51

No one should ever buy thermaltake. They are exactly what is wrong in PC design. All they have ever accomplished is blatant thievery and disingenuous advertising. That is the beauty of the free market. I can go out and buy crap like Thermaltake and listen to people whine about it like children on t...

Quest, have you looked at the review from Extreme Rigs? The SR2 fits the bill.

Re: High Pressure Fans - radiator

I'm wondering myself if I should use a 280! They say the general rule is 120 per component.

Re: High Pressure Fans - radiator

The radiator that I am looking at is the Hardware Labs 360mm SR2 it's quite thick around 60mm. Based on extreme rigs roundup it seems to perform best in a low RPM push setup. I could do 280 as well but that is less surface area. MB is SuperMicro which has all PWM headers. I've read about people havi...

High Pressure Fans - radiator

Hey folks,

Looking for some high pressure fans to run at low RPM on a 360 radiator. Should I go with NF-12 Noctua originals or some Gentle Tyohoons (500-1850RPM)? Ideally system will be silent. Will be cooling dual Xeons with the rad.

Appreciate any input.

Re: Dual Xeon Setup - InWin 909/Supressor F51

Sorry, I don't know a lot about the cases, but just quickly (and you may already know!) SM tend to have different mounting holes to standard regardless of EE-ATX, EEB etc etc. They'll tell you they only support their cases. I had to drill / tap new mounting holes to fit a dual E5 system in a Lian L...

Re: Dual Xeon Setup - InWin 909/Supressor F51

I don't know if it's EATX or EEB, SM marks its as E-ATX 12x13. InWin + Enthoo Definitely both work. F51 does not which kind of sucks as it seems relatively well made.

Re: Dual Xeon Setup - InWin 909/Supressor F51

If Fractal could produce a box that was capable of handling an EEB board that was more in line with respect to size as their R5 series I would be all over it but they don't. I received the Supressor and Thermaltake can't even drill their holes properly because it doesn't support a SM Board. Seems li...

Dual Xeon Setup - InWin 909/Supressor F51

Will be putting together a Dual Xeon Setup. CPU's are 115 TDP each. Currently looking at Supressor F51 (Supports E-ATX) or Inwin 909. Any thoughts on either of these? Would things be more silent using Dual X61 (can be done in In Win) or Standard Air (Noctua u12dx i4). My concern with the InWin is if...

Re: Seagate Enterprise NAS

Chasing speed in a HDD is pointless if you can afford an SSD in your computer for data that you need to access quickly. Ignoring noise and with all else equal, a slower drive is going to use less power so less heat, slower fans, etc. That is enough reason to be wary of 7,200 rpm in my opinion. On t...

Hey everyone,

Any thoughts on these drives? Any thoughts on how they might compare in terms of acoustics to say a WD RED? They seem to be rated for a similar Dba but are 7200RPM.

Thoughts?

Re: Quiet Mini-ITX Gaming Build Guide #2: NCASE M1 Edition

With the new Zotac card can air cooling be used or is water still suggested? I've read that the MSI cards will fit but the claims are that air doesn't circulate and they just trap heat. Thoughts?

Re: How important is choice of Processor TDP

It seems like a lot of the server boards are narrow sockets. This would limit a lot of cooling options. In fact I think only the X61 could be used.

The R5 is a nice case but am not sure how quiet it would be if the top plates were exposed for the X61. Any thoughts on the Entho Evolv ATX?

How important is choice of Processor TDP

Hey folks, I'm looking at a few options of a CPU that will be primarily used in a work station evironment. I plan to pair this with a GTX 970/980 STRIX as it's my understanding that the fans don't even need to spin when the GPU is not being used. The reason for a GPU of this type is that I would lik...

Antec Signature for Haswell-E or time to upgrade

So I finally have a reason to upgrade my 920. I'd like to move up to an 8 core Haswell-E.

My Antec Signature 850 has served me extremely well over the years! Any reason to upgrade this unit if making the jump to Haswell-E?

Would appreciate any suggestions if you have any.

7200.12 1TB or WD Green Power

Hello everyone, I'm trying to decide between either a Seagate 7200.12 1TB or WD Green 1.5TB (Choosing 1.5TB over 1TB because of denser platters). This is primarily a data storage drive with no apps really being run on it so performance is not of major concern, but I will be doing a lot of writes fro...

I'm looking at getting two of these drives to run as raid one, acoustics and reliability are what is most important to me. Well I went ahead and purchased 2 of these drives for their performance and reliability and they are by far the loudest component in my system. That being said, are there any options in being able to silence these drives?

Hi Dave, Do you really need two fans on the heatsink? What about a duct to the exhaust, and maybe one fan? Two fans would be nice, this heatsink rocks but it works even better with two fans in a push pull configuration. As for the duct, a simple fan that did not squeel seems like it would be such a...

Prolimatech Meganehalems - Odd sound when setup for pull

I don't know if its my fans or what, but I've tried both Kama Flows and S-Flex at medium speed and when this cooler is setup in a push configuration it exhibits a high pitched annoying noise. I don't know if its how air travels to the cooler in a pushed style mode but it is a pretty distinct sound. ...
