Re: Good idle but high max temp on 4850e w/ low airflow

I got the S-clip installed. It turned out that rotating the heatsink didn't actually make more than a few degrees' difference, at least with both fans still attached. Or you could mount the case fan on the lower position of the heatsink (without changing its position) and use a bottom-upwards flow. ...

Re: Good idle but high max temp on 4850e w/ low airflow

My rule of thumb says anything over (or even close to) 20C over ambient is not good as from cold start it is highly likely you will exceed the drive temp gradient specs (used to be 20C/hour - haven't read a spec sheet for a while). On the assumption your ambient could at times be 16-18C you are pus...

I agree that 100% CPU will not be needed often, but I know it will be used occasionally (e.g. when compiling big stuff) and I'd rather be safe. If the Noctua 800rpm fan is quieter at 12v than the Tricool, why not use the mobo's CPU header for the tri-cool, rather than the case fan? The tricool has a...

Thanks.

I mounted the antec tricool that came with the case on the bottom side of the heatsink and it keeps the CPU at 50-56°C (not sure which sensor to trust) even with the weird orientation. It made the system a little noisier, so I might try an 800RPM fan at some point.

I thought about a fan duct but felt it was a bad idea because the fanless PSU would get less airflow (would it?), as would the motherboard. I'd also need to be able to rotate the heatsink.

Good idle but high max temp on 4850e w/ low airflow

Hello and thanks for a great site! The 24/7 server box I've put together idles at ~28°C/34°C CPU/NB but the CPU temp climbs to 75°C after a few hours of dual core cpuburn. The relevant specs: - Antec SOLO case - GA-MA78GPM-DS2H - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4850E 2.5Ghz - Thermalright HR-01 PLUS - Fortron Z...
