Re: 3770K IHS removal and results
16 degrees is a lot; I wonder if the thermal compound was applied correctly and the sink was correctly seated in the first test.

Re: 3770K IHS removal and results
Yeah. Consider the weight of the sink and the force pulling it towards the board - it can easily cause a crack.
But that's why you don't do this unless you know what you're doing...

Re: 3770K IHS removal and results
Nice, thanks for sharing!
I wonder: would it be possible - and would it make sense - to attach the heat sink directly (removing the IHS from the equation as a whole)?

Hi all, I've been looking for a brick for my PicoPSU 150 as well. I've been looking for the most efficient 220V/12V AC/DC adapters by sieving through the Excel sheet here . The Mean Well bricks seems to be the most efficient. I am looking at the GS220A12-R7B is particular, because it provides 200W o...

Hi Walter, yes, I think so, too. I was planning on getting the PicoPSU, but I plan on extending the system with more HDDs in the near future. According to my estimation, the fully built system would consume something like 140-150W (with all components active, for example, at startup), and the bigge...

Re: Antec Twelve Hundred - cover the window
I just put it next to my other PC.mentosan wrote:I don't want the light from various components inside to shine out.Thanks.
You can put it next to the wall as well.
PS. Having owner a CM Stacker for the past 6 or so years, I have to say the side panels of the Antec 1200 suck big time.

Yes, the LEDs are annoying. It feel like I bought a Christmas tree and not a PC case. If you do not need the LEDs, you can just cut the wires. If you want a non-destructive method, I have good news: The glue they used is not hard - it is soft. Therefore, you can pop out the LEDs from the fans and pu...

I got almost all of my components and I put the system together. Here are the components: - CM Stacker case (removed fans from HDD cages and covered upper and side breathing holes with duct tape to force the air through the HDD cages) - 2x80mm fans from Noctua on the upper PSU slot, plugged into pow...

It is only -0.10 volts max undervolt for CPU, but at least it is something. They also added more RAM voltages. I wonder if a BIOS hack would allow less. But, I guess another way to save power is to under-clock it. I ordered a GF9300-G-E board, and I will put in it an E3200. I do not have a power me...

I am building a NAS - I ordered all components, I can post the list if you want. Why do you need ECC RAM? Why not get a decent RAID card? Like Adaptec 51645 (this is what I ordered), or Areca - you would not need to worry about the rest of the system. Still looking for a good OS run it - need Window...

RAID6 controller recommendation for a NAS
Hi all, I just signed up. The time has come for me to build a NAS because the family pictures and videos are eating up the storage space on my PC; soon the storage space runs out and then I am in trouble. One should never buy an HD camera ;-) I would like to get a recommendation for a RAID6 controll...
