Re: Bay-Trail vs AM1 (and the winner is...)

Great write up OP. So we know that idle is still the same power consumption for both haswell and these systems... What are we looking at in terms of the difference in price between building a haswell low power system and an AM1 or Bay-trail with similar components? If we're looking at the difference...

Haswell Low Power Builds

Hi all, As a follow up to my thread for ivy bridge (http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=64635), I want to ask you guys what's the lowest idle/total power consumption builds you have seen using Haswell. Please include kill-a-watt readings! I've been reading that MSI B85M-P33 is ...

I'll probably use the pentium G630T cpu (a dual core 35W sandy bridge)
when you do get it, please be sure to post your wattage readings here. Always interested to see how low it can get.

DH77DF vs DH77EB - power consumption

Hi all,

Anyone got a DH77EB or DH77DF that they can measure with killawatt? I'm curious which one is better in terms of power efficiency/low energy usage.

Thanks,

Power Consumption with ESXi

Hi all,

Just curious if anyone knows... why does the sandy bridge and ivy bridge processors take 5-10 additional watts on idle than Windows? Is ESXi not going into some low power idle state? Is there drivers for ESXi to improve this?

Thanks,

Ivy Bridge & HTPC

Hi all, Does anyone with a ivy bridge intel processor know if they have fixed the 24p issue? I keep hearing conflicting stories all over the internet that they fixed it or will fix it (http://www.anandtech.com/show/5773/intels-ivy-bridge-an-htpc-perspective/5) and some that say they didn't (http://w...

Re: Sandy Bridge Power Consumption Readings?

Thanks all for your input... Understanding that the idle power consumption is fairly the same among all sandy bridge CPUs does help me better understand what to purchase when I upgrade my computer... I noticed that the xbits lab article ( http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i5-2400s_6....

Re: Sandy Bridge Power Consumption Readings?

A review of the 2400 S on Xbitlabs indicates that there is absolutely NO difference in idle power consumption between it and the regular 2400. Seems logical, as the CPUs are designed to underclock and -volt as much as possible when idle. I don't see why the 2500T would be any different. If it's low...

Sandy Bridge Power Consumption Readings?

Hi, Anyone got the Sandy Bridge i5-2500T CPU yet? I'm curious to know how good the idle power efficiency on these things and if they can possibly do 20 or 25 watt idle load with a picoPSU. If not, maybe the i5-2390T will be able to reach that level? Anyways, if anyone has these... please post some r...

Re: Low Idle Power Core i5 System?

A VM is just another process and it will use CPU and memory and disk. When the VM is "idle" then the CPU load drops very considerably. The power draw with the guest idle should be low, but this may depend on the virtualization software. Using KVM on a Linux host, with a Linux guest idle. The VM pro...

I have a question about your VM setup. Do you use Windows 7, etc to run the VM with Linux, or some other VM software? Currently on my atom, I'm running windows 2k8 host OS and VMWare. With the i5 offering more power, I would probably run Windows 7 Ultimate with 2 VMs, linux and Win2k8... I may swit...

Low Idle Power Core i5 System?

Hi all, I've been researching the ideal low power system. I have an Atom PC and it's great at taking less than 35 watts, but it is getting a bit too slow for me. I've been reading Tom's Hardware Review article that you can get a i5 to 25 watt idle load and was hoping I could achieve something simila...
