Re: GTX 1070 Review Compilation Thread
I got the EVGA 1070 SC and have to say it's seriously the quietest card I've ever owned (apart from my fanless 5770 in my HTPC). Without even changing the cards fan profile in afterburner the highest I've seen the fan is 45% and that's on a hot 30 degree day playing witcher 3 maxed out. At 45% I can...

Re: Quiet / Silent server case for at least 9 HDD's.
Norcos are great however be prepaid to buy a 120mm fan bracket. The fans they come with are as loud as they come, completely unbearable. I was cheap and just ghetto strapped my fans in. But it really is the easiest route to go and you can get it reasonably quiet after replacing the fans.

Re: Scythe disappearing from US market?!
True about Thermaltake. Or Zalman with their relentless pursuit of futile Flower Heatsinks. I'm guessing the development of some of their over the top heatsinks like the Orochi didn't help but did they ever make some quality bargain heatsinks and fans! Many of their fans could be had for very cheap ...

Re: Recommendations for quietest GTX 570 (or even 560 or 470
Can't quote me on it but from my research of galaxy and sparkle the galaxy comes with a value of 15% fan minimum on their 580 and the sparkle I personally know has a 40% minimum. I modded my sparkle 580 (really easy once you flash a usb stick with dos) to 0% minimum. 0% value appears to ramp the fan...

Re: Mike's final sign-off
This is incredibly disheartening news to me. All things have their end but SPCR has to be one of a select elite few havens on the internet I have come to cherish over the years. SPCR is the only tech site around that gets it. Most tech sites don't have the care of attention or materials to review co...

400w from the wall with a slightly overclocked 580 (833/2170) and overclocked 2600k (4.4ghz @ 1.28volt). I only have 1 hard drive and 2 solid state drives and slow moving fans mind you so overhead above the cpu and gpu is small. I was benchmarking with my 580 and an old 8400 (which kept up with the ...

Seasonic 560 should be able to run just about any single GPU setup. A good 500w can run a Gtx 580 even though its specifications state 600w. I pull just under 400w from the wall artificial load on both my 2600k + 580.

Re: fastest passive (nvidia) card available?
I run my 580 passive at idle. Bios modded sparkle 580 (comes with cooler). I suggest the Galaxy 580 as it comes quiet enough stock without bios mod and is reasonably priced.

Re: Help and comments - Photograper's PC
Go with a crucial or intel drive they won't have sandforce issues. Apparently both corsair and ocz's newest drives are having a few issues. If you can save a little bit more for a heatsink I highly recommend the HR-02 it's the best in the market with a single low-rpm fan. Keeps my 2600k overclocked ...

Re: Which *silent* power supply (SLI 580, 2600K)?
I did a fair amount of reading on this because I expected to possibly add a second 580 into my rig. There are several threads on OCN about this as well as several users of SLI 580s. At least one also has the 2600k. I really think you'll have absolutely no problems OCing your computer to basically an...

Re: Which *silent* power supply (SLI 580, 2600K)?
I recommend the corsair ax850 it's more than enough and still very efficient up to high power loads. SPCR tested it to like 1000watts from the wall so it's overkill, a 750w could easily run them too. I have a 2600k and one 580. My AX850 is seperated from the rest of my case and under artificial load...

Re: I do not want to hear this system ...
Yeah I have seen some orochi builds around here but I always thought their mounting system looked very suspect for such a heavy cooler. Scythe seems to go with a bigger is better concept sometimes. So is the HR-01 good enough to actually passively cool an i3 in an open case then?

This is a realy fantastic thread ces. I have learned so much from SPCR in such a short time. Re: I do not want to hear this system ...
Mike do you plan to review the HR-02? Or only if someone happens to donate one to you for review? We actually have had one in the lab... but we found it is not quite as good as the HR01 for truly fanless cooling, this is no surprise given the tighter spacing of the fins... and Thermalright asked us...

Re: I do not want to hear this system ...
+1 vote for HR-02 I have one and did a lot of research on it before hand. While the Noctua D14, Thermalright Silver Arrow and Venomous X are all big good coolers that cool pretty quietly HR-02 is the best cooler around with one single low rpm fan. In my Silverstone case with the 3 180mm fans @ 500rp...

Re: Cooler for GTX 460
Yeah try it @ 30% and see how it sounds if you're not adverse to bios mod (it's pretty easy). Read bios in GPU-Z, mod in NiBiTor and flash with NVflash on usb stick. My MSI 460 sounds pretty good @ 30% in my P182. Inaudible at even a 3 foot distance. The cyclone is known for being fairly quiet though.

Re: Modern video card noise: good enough for SPCR?
Galaxy 580 w/ Accelero Xtreme Plus cooler. Fans run at 15% (900rpm) or so I gather until the card hits 75c (almost never). It comes with backplate and is cheaper than the sparkle 580 I have that I had to bios mod to get my fans down under 40% minimum. Trust me 15% is extremely quiet - inaudible in a...

Re: P183 vs FT02 vs 650D vs 700D?
FT02B is a fantastic case but the fans need to be hooked up to a fan controller or undervolted to spin below 600rpm to be considered quiet. The default low just doesn't cut it. @ 4-500rpm however they're just barely barely audible @ night with my cpu and gpu passively cooled. It's really quality and...

Re: Antec P182, GTX 580, gaming build - Silent
I've had my Sparkle 580 for a while. I modded the bios to 0% min fan and 85% max. My fan profile has the fans spin down @ idle (idles 40-50c) which is anything under 7%. Once it hits 55c it spins to 7% which starts spinning the first fan over the memory which has no heatsinks (but they barely get wa...

Re: HELP - Best silent graphics card now available?
I don't want to say for sure but I'm reasonably sure that a Thermalright Shaman could just about passively cool a gtx 580. In hardocps test it maxed out at 64 degrees artificial load. The memory on the 580 runs cool and without heatsinks on many cards so slap some heatsinks on the memory and it just...

Humanity is naturally a risk/reward species with the emphasis on risk. I have to say I kind of agree with the pessimism around here - I think the only end to consumerism will be the crash of consumerism. At least in the United States/Canada. Europe has always put much more thought into how they cons...

Very nice, and thank you for all the details, i also modded my graphic card, i cant go below 30% but its ok. You should be carefull with your 580, use CPUID to be sure of the fan speed and temperature. The gpu cooler is simply the best, you can buy it for 70dollars and install it on a graphic card....

Re: Fortress FT02B w/ 2600k and HR-02
Okay. Reworked the build a bit and added calibre x580 in. It's an amazing cooler with some modification Stock the fans on the sparkle are set to 40% minimum and 85% load. 40% is OK but not really silent, 85% is pretty good actually for load. But this isn't good enough for me. I modded the bios via N...

Nice build!
