Re: cleaning Silverstone fan filter
Its a blower and yes, it has a lot of power. Has almost a full horse power of power and puts out about 70 CFM. The hose ends aren't very large, which means there is a lot of pressure behind the air. It has about 10x-15x the power of compressed air (if I had to guess). I use it for dusting everythin...

Re: NF-S12A 120mm fan, third generation.
Hum, I wonder just how well it would fare in a restrictive environment i.e. a heatsink or radiator. It may shine best as a case fan. I need to look more into this one. According to Noctua, its designed more for case fans and less restrictive environments: http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=which_fa...

Re: cleaning Silverstone fan filter
I just finally got around to cleaning my Silverstone fan filters yesterday. Went very well. I just used running water and a bit of Dawn liquid. Very easy. Drying time was pretty quick too, and no deformation of the screen material at all. I was going to blow the excess dust off first with a canned ...

That's the kind of answer I was looking for. I get nervous when my GPU gets above 70C, which is why I let the fans be heard at that point.kuzzia wrote:As long as it's under 90 C then as silent as possible.

This month's issue of Maximum PC has a two-page story about the NUC. Much of the same is mentioned, great concept, but runs extremely hot.

How hot will you go...
How hot do y'all let your GPU get before letting the GPU's fan(s) be heard? Personally, I keep my GPU's fan speeds below 45% (inaudible) until the GPU reaches 70C. At that point, the GPU fans bump up to 50% and can be slightly heard. From there, I bump up the % by 10 for every 5 degrees above 70C (s...

Re: Noctua NH-L12-Very quiet, but not as effective as expect
I'm running the NH-L12 on my i5 3570K @ 4.2GHz. My max temps are around 70C after an hour or so of gaming and in the 76-77C range when running IBT. If I downclock to stock, temps never get about 64C under load and 67C under Prime95. I reinstalled the NH-L12 multiple times before being happy. I think...

Correct, though the best way to test a new OC is still through a gaming session.gdr wrote:The Unigine 'Heaven' bench seems more useful for simulating a gaming load than Furmark.

Re: CPU Fan failed error
Before replacing the fan, did you try lowering the minimum CPU fan speed in the BIOS? Or disabling CPU fan control in the BIOS? I had the same error last week when I installed my NH-L12 and learned that the minimum rotating speed caused the error. The fan was getting down to 200rpm on boot and my mo...

Re: Furmark: a good load generator?
Furmark is a waste in my opinion. Its just asking you to fry your card. I've seen water cooled GPUs have trouble keeping temps down when running Furmark. If you're looking to test your GPU for stability before or after an OC, then get 3DMark(http://www.futuremark.com) or Unigine (http://unigine.com/...

How does the push/pull orientation work? Does the 120mm fan push air down onto the heatsink while the 92mm fan pulls air up from the CPU to the heatsink?
I'm new to dual fan CPU coolers.

Inventory is hard to find in the US since Scythe USA was shutdown at the end of 2012. All Scythe goods now are coming from Japan (HQ) until a new Scythe USA or major retailer is found and contracts agreed upon. Check it out here: http://www.scythe-usa.com/

Re: Creating the Most Efficient / Quiet Air Cooling
After doing some testing last night, it turns out using a piece of cardboard on each side of the case lowered temps by 2-degrees. Using the left side fan as an exhaust made no difference during the tests. I ran Intel Burn Test for 5 runs on maximum settings. The highest recorded temp before the card...

Re: Creating the Most Efficient / Quiet Air Cooling
Is remixing a problem? In your diagram, the upper right corner looks to me like you could be recirculating hot air back from the exhausts into the top fan. How about getting some 2-3" blocks of foam a foot or two long and blocking the flow between the exhausts and intakes to see if that reduces the...

The case is enclosed completely by the TV stand, except in the front. The front is completely open (no doors or anything). Also, the two shelves above the case aren't as long as the bottom shelf, so air can float up in the rear of the stand. I was looking at the Nexus Real Silent Case Fan (http://ww...

Anyone tried the AzenX Blitztorm as a PCI / GPU fan? I'm planning to OC my GPU a little, but it gets a little loud for my liking when it gets above 65C (full load). Any OC is likely to make temps go up, so I need another way to "help" the GPU heatsink and fans do their job. The Blitztorm has some go...

What effect do the low noise adapters have? Noticeably quieter or just barely? Significant decline in cooling ability (CPU runs hotter)? I'm finally about to order this thing and trying to get a better understanding of whether or not I should use the adapters.

Re: Need advice for i3770K cpu cooling
Most of the coolers from Noctua will meet your quiet and cool requirements; however, unless you have a wood-grained themed PC, they won't look good. The Dark Rock 2 seems legit; however, it is rather bulky compared to the others. I don't know enough about ThermalRight to type anything of value.

Typical GPU temps at Idle, Half-Load, and Full-Load
What are the typical temperatures for a single, high-end GPU at different loads? I have a 7850 and I'm trying to keep it a little quieter at half and full loads; however, I'm unsure at what point cooling will become an issue. At idle, the GPU hovers around 35 w/ GPU fans running at 25% and is not au...
