Re: How to make a graphics card quieter using sponge

Interesting use of vibration damping. I'm sure it works quite well, but it's risky because most foam breaks down over time when subject to heat. iirc, it doesn't take that much heat, nor time. I've had foam in HDD silencing boxes end up being powdery dust after a couple years of continuous... and V...

Re: i5 4670K vs 4670S

Thanks guys. I'll be looking at MSI or Asrock boards now. But is there any videos or anything detailing all the fan control options on these boards? I know many exist for ASUS Fan Xpert, but I haven't seen any detailing other motherboard manufacturers.

i5 4670K vs 4670S

I'm looking to upgrade to Haswell and I'm having trouble deciding between CPUs for a quiet pc build. The K has a TDP of 84W vs 65 for the S. My current Phenom II 955 has a TDP of 125W. What I aim to do is using my motherboard fan control software, to turn off the fans below a certain point (idle or ...

quietest 7950/7870?

Does anyone know which is the quietest 7950/7870? I'm trying to decide between the two of them, and from my research, people are saying the triple slot Asus 7950 or the Gigabyte 7950 are the quietest. I'd like to know what SPCR has to say on the matter though.

the 6cm "extension" with the Corsair fans are actually voltage step-down adapters.

Re: Zalman CNPS 14x spinning too fast

To work Fan Xpert needs Q-Fan to be enabled in the BIOS. Fan Xpert once working should offer you a choice of profiles, of which Silent could be the best option. As you can already see there is a fan calibration facility which should establish the lowest speeds at which the CPU fan can run. I have Q...

Re: Zalman CNPS 14x spinning too fast

Also, I can't seem to access Fan Xpert. All the options in Q-Fan are disabled, but if I go to C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\AI Suite and open up the various files, there are these programs but again I can't access or interact with any of it.

Re: Zalman CNPS 14x spinning too fast

Did you configure Asus Q-Fan in BIOS? http://www.asus.com/999/html/events/mb/qfan.htm And i would try Asus FanExpert instead of speedfan. If it works, you should be able to finetune rpm. My BIOS only has options for enabling/disabling Q-Fan and some rudimentary temperature option that seems to make...

Zalman CNPS 14x spinning too fast

I'm using HWMonitor and Speedfan and it shows that my Zalman CNPS 14x is always at around 1160 rpm, even at idle temps of 30C, and maxes at around 1250 rpm at load. Is this right? The Zalman website lists the operating range as 950 ~ 1,350rpm ± 10%, and I'm getting nowhere near 950 rpm. I have an AS...

which PSU to choose?

I need a quiet PSU and I believe I have narrowed it down to these choices (both on sale): Corsair TX650 Available for $80 (Canadian) here:http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=441&item_id=052924 or SeaSonic X-400 $120 here: http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=79063 Note that this is the FLI...
