I would consider knocking off one of the case fans (in addition to undervolting). Ive got 2x panaflos, one for the PSU and one for the CPU. Theyre both running at 12v, but i have no extra case fans. Im going to undervolt them, hopefully my temps wont rise dramatically.

Remote desktop doesnt support 3d acceleration. I have a home lan, i tried to run warcraft/wolfenstein through remote desktop. It would give me an error, something about not being able to run Opengl (for wolfenstein). Warcraft wouldnt run either, drawing error or something Windows media player worked...

rotational speed is not the only factor in noise output. The seagate barracuda IVs run at 7200rpm, but because of their fluid bearings they are apparently virtually silent.

laptop drives run at a lower speed, typically 4200rpm. That probably accounts for a good deal of its silence. You can try out a desktop 5400rpm drive and see if it is quieter. ive got an Alpha PAL6035 and im thinking of changing the Sanyo Denki 60mm fan to something quieter..any recommendations for an affordable alternative?
