Re: New HTPC build (streacom FC10 alpha)
I can't comment on the difficulty level of assembly...there are a bunch of Streacom reviews. Seems workable. They have a lot of info on their site. I'd opt for an H97 over the B85 for HTPC. Better DPC latency, better firmware. Make sure your pick meets the CPU placement rules for the case. If not s...

I will purchase a p35-based motherboard. Where can I find info on what Asus mobo feature speedfan-controlable headers? Id like more than one... Do I have to purchase a deluxe board with alle the crap that I dont need? I think the p5kc looks promising. Passive cooling and firewire for an ok price. -k

I have "jiggled" with the scythe cooler, and that seemed to do the trick. Right now I am doing : System = 41C Core 0 = 46C Core 1 = 46C Core 2 = 40C Core 3 = 40C All temps from speedfan 4.32 running Vista at low load and the casefan at low speed (cpu-cooler fan still at 12V). One interesting note: W...

I would try reseating the Ninja, but yes the Rev B has been quite bad for Scythe... The Q6600 has a TDP of 105W, so it puts it at about the level as a 3.6GHz Prescott. Yes, you get 4 cores, but it does create a lot of heat at full tilt. yes, but I was under the impression that scythe ninja was amon...

Thanks. In fact, SLI and wlan does not matter to me, Asus just has so many models that it is diffucult to get a clear view (also, features like good speedfan support and passive cooling seems to be only present in expensive do-everything-models). A group of Norwegian A/V interested people are planning to commision a purpose-built HTPC. They want to spec a HTPC that will be easily upgradeable for HD-DVD/BR playback, FLAC high-quality audio playback, as well as live TV shifting/recording. In order of importance. It is also important that this ...

Mobos with 2 or more speedfan contralable fan headers?
My 3 latest mobos was Asus. All of those had only one fan header controllable by speedfan, the latest I cannot get to work with suspend/S3. Time to switch manufacturer me thinks. So, as long as the table at the speedfan website seems incomplete. What is the manufacturer to look to for good, stable, ...

Semi-passive PSU with external fan control?
Are there any high-quality low-noise PSUs out there that allows external control of its fan without voiding the warranty? I am kind of asking for a Seasonic 330W that usually controls its own fan by its own temp, but if a fan input is requesting a higher fan speed that the internal sensor, then the ...

Suspend S3 "works" but the computer starts immidia
I have had the glorious S3 up and working and it is great. Lets my living room pc "shut down" and "start" in seconds, while consuming nearly no power or noise when in suspend. Howver, after changing motherboard (from Asus p4p800 dlx to p4p800SE due to failure), reinstalling windows xp sp2, my suspen...

My primary problem is that my HTPC mobo (Asus p4p800 E-DLX) has only 1 fan controllable fan out. And I have 3 fans, a 120mm PAPST CPUfan and 2x80mm case fans. My current solution is running the CPU fan and 1 system fan @5V, while the second system fan is temperature controlled by speedfan. I would w...

mCubed T-Balancer integrated with Mobo sensors?
Is it possible to integrate the MCubed T-balancer fan-controller with MBM/speedfan applications so that the CPU-fan is controlled by CPU internal diode in stead of some less precise external sensor? Or is it just as well to control CPU-fan by speedfan then, and leave the mCubed thing to do system fa...

I guess equilibrium will always be reached. The big question is the difference between ambient temps and hd temps in such a construction. If the cupper is not efficient enough, the hd will reach to high temperatures to operate reliably. I chose the 0.2mm because it was simple to bend. If it is to th...

opinions to my simple HD cooling strategy?
No revolution, but I am trying to solve the three common HD silencing problems: a) airboren noise b) structural noise (vibrations) c) getting adequate cooling For this, I have bought a 0.2mm cupper plate, and I am looking for foam of decent properties. The thought is to put the HD in a "box" of foam...

reliability of AMD temp sensor
Are AMD temp sensors now moved to the core, or are they still on the mobo close to the CPU? The reason that I`m asking is that I put together my 3000+/nfoce4 ultra system this weekend with a zalman 7000Cu and speedfan. When I set the target temp to 50deg.C (CPU) and 40de.C (everything else), the CPU...

I`m an electronics engineer and I DO know the difference between serial and parallel ;-) I am objecting to you saying that "You can use one MB header to control two fans. That's running in a parallel configuration, not series". That is wrong. One fan header could run two fans in either parallel or s...
