Looks like HIS is selling one with the same cooler. Newegg (For a better look, see the rotational view on Newegg, or the HIS product page .) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/wraithakamrak/cog/HIS5770.png But this other PowerColor looks to have a better non-reference cooler. techPowerUp http://...

Ok, Cliff notes version: I need a heatsink for LGA 1156 (i7-860). What's my best option? (In a SOLO case.) Any particular advice on what RAM to get? Likely going 2 x 2GB DDR3 1333, 1.5v. Using SSD as primary (Agility 120GB), HDD for data. Should I use my Samsung 500GB or get a new single platter dri...

Heatsink, RAM, HDD recommendations? (Core i7 1156)
I have most of the new parts for my system, but haven't chosen a heatsink or RAM yet. Also considering a new HDD for a data drive. (I'm also looking for a new graphics card, but will probably wait until next month, when the AMD 5770 should be out.) Heatsink : I'll be running an i7-860 on MSI P55-GD8...

Ugh, it looks like every review site got sent an i5-750 and an i7-870, but I can't find any benchmarks comparing the i7-920 to the i7-860, which share a price point. Obviously, the 860 will be the winner in power consumption, but I still want to see the performance numbers. Guru3D has the only revi...

Do you have crashes even when you watch a movie on PC? And how it's crash? BSOD? Restart? Hang? Try to remove media preview. Start->Run-> cmd Type "regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll" (without quotes) If you want it back type "regsvr32 shmedia.dll" I haven't tried watching a DVD movie, and haven't really play...

Memtest should be run at least half dozen times for reliable result... How well did you remove Ati's drivers? Power related crashing would occur during high load, not all the time so this sounds more like some software problem. I will try running MEMTEST again for more passes. For removing the ATI ...

I also tried running just on my primary monitor, disconnecting the second LCD, but I still get crashes. Even just watching videos online (YouTube and others) it can crash. Issues with 7900 GTX power-related? (PCIe power adapter)
I bought a used 7900 GTX PCI Express graphics card a couple weeks ago. (Bought through another forum I frequent. Everything looks to be in good condition.) I'm planning on a new system in the near future, but put the card in my current system for now. I have a Seasonic S12-430 PSU and MSI RS480M2-IL...

Samsung 32 GB solid state disk announced
Announced on Tom's Hardware, referenced on slashdot and Engadget, etc. Samsung 32 GB solid state disk, 1.8 inch format. Nothing solid on price or release date. The article's author makes a $750-$1000 price estimate. http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/03/21/32gb_ssd_samsung/ Apologies if this has been poste...

Oops, I did miss the last line in that post. Some users have found that it actually does do that when playing DVDs. Someone on Joystiq gave their impression: I disagree with it being too loud to watch DVDs. I enjoyed watching 2 dvd's on it so far and it's pretty near me. The fan and drive slow down ...

Joystiq has a brief post on Xbox 360 noise. Doesn't look great. And the external power supply is not fanless.

The first thing I thought of was the name "Vista-Cruiser." ( link - Heh, "Keeps a sharp lookout with 11 windows .") Somewhere on News.com they said they should nickname it WinVi, since it's equivalent to NT 6. I think a non-numeric name might be more appealing / less confusing for non-techies overal...

S12 chirping noise?
I'm fairly certain it's coming from the PSU. Isn't coming from the CPU fan or exhaust fan. If it's not from the PSU, I don't know what it is. Sounds sort of like a cricket, but not so high pitch. More like a cyclical rattling. I didn't hear it at all until I'd been using it for a couple weeks. PSU w...

s939, Passive, PCIe, HTPC, no OC... I've only had it installed a couple days, so maybe other owners can speak for it more than I can, but MSI's RS480M2-IL meets all those criteria. Oh yeah, it also has integrated video. So if you were only going to put in a very basic graphics card, you may be able ...

I just installed this board tonight. The fans ramped down automatically, so it must have this latest BIOS. One thing I noticed: when I opened SpeedFan the first time, it showed speed for both fans as 43%. When I closed SpeedFan, the fans ramped up to 100%. I could open SpeedFan again and lower them ...

Windows XP has power savings features built in, similar to the CPU-IDLE and CPU-COOL features known from the Windows 9X environment as part of the ACPI feature set. Cool'N Quiet was disabled in the BIOS to disallow change in core frequency. I wasn't quite sure what power-saving features of XP they'...

My Benq mouse (from the x805 combo) makes a whole host of noises. Most of them aren't heard over my PSU, but sometimes the whining is loud enough to notice. I think it might actually be faulty, since it seems to run through a pair of batteries rather quickly, and the red optical light is always flas...

Is that the difference between the 4412F/2GL and the 4412FGL? I purchased a 4412FGL from Directron a few months ago, and it has the large 4-pin molex connector instead of the small 3-pin fan connector. No problems starting w/ 5v mod, very quiet, doesn't feel like it moves much air. I don't know if I...

I didn't get a chance to read the whole thing yet, but in short, it looks like temps, power consumption, and performance were all slightly higher than Winchester.
