I'd like to do a staggered spinup but my ATA RAID controller (3Ware 7506-12) doesnt support it and I dont know of any ATA RAID controller that does. It seems only SATA disks and controllers support staggered startup. And I dont have the money to replace 12 ATA disks and buy a SATA RAID card. The oth...

I've had not one but two hard drives fail in the media server at the same time. One was a 60 gb Maxtor ATA being used as the system drive and the other was a Western Digital 500 gb SATA drive (WD5000KS). Both drives were new and hadn't been used and I had had the media server running for only a few ...

IceQ cooler and noise
I'm considering buying a new graphics card for my HTPC, the HIS 1950 AGP card http://www.hisdigital.com/html/product_ov.php?id=278&view=yes and I was wondering how quiet the IceQ cooling system is. The IceQ cooler looks a lot like one of the Arctic Cooling VGA Silencers which were considered one of ...

Do 2.5 inch drives run cooler than 3.5 drives?
I have a HTPC (Silverstone LC-10 case) that has poor airflow and thus runs hot which causes the PSU (400 watt Super Tornado) fan to speed up and become noisy. I was wondering if replacing the two 3.5 drives (60 and 200 gb Maxtor PATA drives) with a 80 gb Seagate Momentus 5400.3 drive and a 120 gb We...

SilenX 60mm fans question
I have a HTPC case with two 60mm exhaust fans that I've replaced with SilenX 9 cfm 8 dba fans. They are very quiet but I need fans that nove more air. Are the 13 cfm 12 dba or the 18 cfm 16 dba SilenX fans much noisier than the 9 cfm 8 dba version? Thanks.

Does anyone know of a place that will perform case modding for a fee?
I need a few things done to a case I'm about to buy and I dont have
the tools, the knowledge or skills to do it myself. I dont want to
ruin my new case by trying to do it myself. Thanks.

Nexus 92mm vs Panaflo 00mm
I'm considering buying a HTPC (Home Theater PC) case that can take either a 80mm or a 92mm intake fan. As this case is going to be fairly packed with hardware I want good airflow but I also a quiet fan as well. So which is better in regards to silence and airflow: a Panaflo 80mm or a Nexus Real Sile...

I'd like to see a review of the Silverstone LaScala LC10 & LC11 cases here at SPCR. I've only seen one review of the LC10 at Anandtech and none of the LC11. I was wondering if SPCR was going to do a review of the new Silverstone LC-10 case. Is BTX no longer necessary?
Given that one of the main reasons for the BTX form factor was to provide better cooling due to Intel's very hot running Pentium 4 (Prescott and above) chips is BTX still necessary now that the P4 line has reached the end of the road and will be replaced by the much cooler running Pentium-M based ch...
