The Holy Grail - Small, Powerful, Quiet SFF Gaming PC

Looks like things are getting interesting lately. Like alot of us, i have been looking to build a small, (relatively) powerful SFF gaming box. With lower power chips (Penryn) coming soon, and gfx card cooling solutions getting better and better, the 'Holy Grail' of computing is getting closer. Now, ...

dual slot vid card in SFF?

Hey guys, sorry to start a new thread, but this question kind of warrants another thread  Anyway, since my upgrade options are, lets say 'limited' with my Aopen XCCube EZ65, i am thinking about putting a new vid card in to prolong its life lol 8) Has anyone ever tried a dual slot card in a sin...

Yeah, ive been hunting around and not finding what i was hoping for. I guess there isnt enough deviation by the manufacturersfrom normal form factors out there to accomodate my ideas. Pentium M might be an idea, or hey, what about Core Duo? Maybe i should check that out too.....as long as the price ...

Update, ok i found the form factor size. Its 270 x 186mm. Now, if i can find a board that is around that size, i should be ok? There is a tiny bit of leeway on the inside of the case, so i may even be able to squeeze something slightly bigger in there. Feel free to help with my search guys :)

swapping m/b in an Aopen EZ65?

Hey guys, i have been looking around but been having difficulty finding official dimensions for the motherboard in my Aopen EZ65. Its such a good case that i was thinking why not upgrade the mobo? I know it is micro-atx (or some derivative of), but i dont know if there is another mobo (specifically ...

9800 Pro in Aopen XCCube......HSF/silent options?

Hey guys, ok.....so now i got my XCcube up and running, and im going full bore into silencing mode  I must say that it runs nice and pretty quiet and smooth, but now I need to go to the next level . I have done some searching but havent found a HSF that will fit into this SFF. Does anyone know ...

Awesome, thanks again for the replies guys :) On a side note, just a word about prices. I paid (tax included), $394.00CDN for these 2 parts. The P4 was 220, and the ram was 126. I have been hearing from some of the guys at work here that there are much better prices out there. I have 2 days to retur...

Because nobody reviews/reports on the low end model ... ironic since that's what everyone buys. Think about it, our reviews are of the 5/600W PSUs and 300GB+ HDDs. That's not what everyone is buying, that's what the manufacturers want to see reviewed. Good point.......im just wondering if i should ...

I just found that article last night myself. But Anandtech is talking about a slightly different rated RAM (hence why i put the model number in my first post). The memory they tested IS Value Series RAM, but the timings are slightly different on those sticks from mine. They are 2.5-3-3-7, but the on...

OCZ or Kingston?

Okay, today I went by my local computer shop and picked up an order I placed a few days ago. It was: p4 3.0HT Prescott 1mb 800mhz 1gb (2x512) Kingston Dual Channel ValueRAM (KVR400X64C3AK2/1G) ...or at least that was what it was SUPPOSED to be. The guy ended up giving me some of OCZ's new ValueRAM (...

865G processor compatibility?

Hey all, quick question........will an 865G Intel chipset mobo take an older P4 1.5 400fsb cpu? (SL59V), and a stick of DDR266? I was given some parts by a friend and wanna throw together a box out of it. Its a dual channel 'capable' mobo, but will it work with single channel ram? Info please :)

pc riser card performance?

Hey guys i have been looking at some of the Silverstone HTPC style cases, and im wondering. Does using an AGP/PCI riser card affect performance at all? Ie. is there a performance hit for using a riser card? If not, some of those more slim line type cases (like the LC 04 or 08) would make a nice HTPC...

As for the OS, probably either WinXP with a pvr software (MythTV, Sage, etc), or a Linux pvr. Whichever suits my needs and is faster, really. Probably the *nix one, havent looked into it a whole lot yet. Good point on MCE needing a fast vid card. I work at Future Shop, and the new HP DEC (Digital En...

Hey guys, got a little cash set aside right now to build myself a nice little pvr/htpc. Games and uber high performance arent a priority.
