Steve Jobs is a huge fan (pun) of silent pcs.
I heard some of the early iMacs w/o a fan had heat problems.
The newer macs have huge heatsinks and two fans. One on the
power supply and one for the mobo/cpu. I thought the cubes
were pretty cool. (way over priced) Kind of like Shuttle's SFF
line.

cgr1971, I just purchased a SK-7. In most reviews it seemed to perform just a little under the 800. I purchased a zalman fan bracket and mounted the stock SK-7 fan on the bracket just above the Heat Sink. I was a little concerned about the weight of the whole HS and fan. I move my computer around. W...

What's Compusa up to? Are they finally getting the message that people like to modify/upgrade their compenents? Unfortunately Compusa is one of the only computer stores around where I live. I'm glad they are finally stocking some components. I think online merchants are taking a lot of business from...

Tom P,

I had a HD fail, generally the whine gets a little louder and louder and it
turns to kind of a scraping sound. Depending on your model and how often
you use it, it may be near the end of it's life span. Just to be safe, backup your data.

El_Duderino, I have a cuda v 80gb and it's pretty quiet. It is more expensive then say a WD or Maxtor but after reading several reviews on the drive I saved up some cash and waited for a sale. Bestbuy seems to offer a rebate every other month or so on the Seagate line. Also check their website for a...

Try a q-tip with isopropanol alchol. It's a cheap way to go if it works for you. I just replaced my HS and it worked for me.

slothdog, I have an athlon 1.2, I did a little research and found the Thermalright sk-7 with fan for under $25 at www.sidewindercomputers.com. They shipped that day and I had it in two days. The HS works pretty well and it's cheaper then the 800. My athlon runs about 127 - 130 f on full load. I woul...
